I'm trying to visualize it in my head. Can that be done without being too much of a ****? If so, I might wanna do it.

Tonight when I'm home again, I'll look into whether I'm able to solder it this way. I should have at least one or two 50 pin cables stashed in a box of computer parts. I have some spare MPCs here as well. So I may end up modding those motherboards while waiting for the drive, which could be here by Saturday or sooner.

Could be a ****, having to separate, strip, and solder, 50 individual wires, and having to get the pinout right, depending on how much patience you have.

I don't mind doing all of that. I've hacked lots of shit. But I don't know how cramped it would be trying to get 50 leads soldered to 25 pins. I'm guessing that's why in the original topic, the poster decided to go with the converter. Too bad they're hard to find. In the meantime I'm gonna have a look at the board and see how much room I got. If it looks like I have enough clearance, I'll get ready to do it tomorrow.

I just took the board out of a spare unit and sized it up with a 50 pin SCSI cable. That's gonna be a little too tight. But I'm trying to come up with some sort of workaround.

Check the 25-50pin SCSI pinout, there might be a number of wires joined together to ground that you could group together away from the connector?

Artmix/Stratos does it here with a Roland S-760, looks like he only connects the 25 wires from the 50 pin ribbon to the DB25, and just cuts the other 25 ground wires and leaves them disconnected/floating...

Thanks Simon. I was just looking at the pinout and noticed all odd numbered leads were ground before you posted that. Looks much easier now.

If you decide to go with your original plan, IDC50-DB25 adapters, which I assume you are planning to use, do seem to be getting harder to find, but it seems there might still be some around...

Thanks again. I haven't looked outside of ebay yet. But I'll buy that for the price just incase soldering 50 pin SCSI leads becomes too much of a hassle.

One of the ones with a PC backplane slot bracket attached might be easier to mount internally, if you want to do that.

And you 'might' need a DB25 male to male adapter, if you are attaching a DB25 female socket inside your MPC.

Depends on what sort of internal DB25 connector you install.

If it is a DB25 female connector that you add internally, then you might need a DB25 male to male adapter (or a very short DB25 male to male cable), to connect the new DB25 connector to the DB25 connector on the DB25-IDC50 adapter.

Something like this, if there is room with the orientation/position of the added DB25 connector...

I think I understand what I overlooked now. This would be if I weren't soldering anything?
