When I solder the connectors from the DB25-IDC50 adapter to the MPC's DB25, the external port is still intact to use as well. I definitely wouldn't have a need for an extra internal DB25.

Anyway, it looks like the DB25-IDC50 adapter and some 26 gauge teflon wire to solder to the main board may be my best bet. I have a feeling that if I try to solder the 50 pin internal SCSI cable to the motherboard, it might not turn out so well from what I've read.

Are you going to desolder the DB25 connector from the DB25-IDC50 adapter, and connect your wires where it used to be?

What is the problem caused by trying to solder a ribbon cable to the mainboard, vs soldering teflon wire to it instead, does the ribbon cable insulation melt too much and cause shorting problems from missing insulation?

Take some photos to show us when you do it.

I'm guessing that I won't have to desolder the DB25 connector from the adaptor because I should be able to solder to the pins underneath.

According to one of the topics started, if I solder the ribbon cable directly it could melt. So shorting could be an issue. But I also saw an even older topic where it was done successfully by someone else. So I might give it a try considering that. Have you ever soldered ribbon cable before?

I'll definitely post some pics when I do it.

Tomorrow I'll practice soldering another ribbon cable to something else to see it it holds up. If that works, I'll go ahead and save some money. The shipping for the adaptor cost as much as the adaptor itself. I'd rather save the $25 and use it for more MO disks.

The drive is coming today, much sooner than I thought. I'll install it in the external enclosure for now, so I can make sure it's working properly. I doubt I'll keep it there for long since I hate trying to make room for it. Hopefully during the course of the day, I'll attempt to do some practice soldering of an old ribbon cable, so I can determine whether or not I should order the 25 to 50 pin adaptor.

Damn. That's **** insane. I got free shipping. But it looks like I'm gonna have to get a refund since the load mechanism is giving me problems. I'm not sure if I want an exchange. It seems that all of these drives end up with this problem from what I've seen so far. Looks like I'm done with drives with moving parts, and I'll end up buying the RaizinMonster.

Yeah, that about sums it up. It's been a bit of a disappointment having two drives fail. But I didn't lose much money overall. It was a fun learning experience anyway.
