"No System File" when trying to boot from SCSI JAZ Drive

Hey ,

first of all sry ,for the new thread .I know there are many with the same topic ,but none of them was helpfull for me .Also sry for my broken English ...Im trying my best
Recently i got the old mpc 2000 classic from a friend .He told me the floppy Drive is not working ,or the connector on the mainboard ,so i searched for an SCSI Drive in order to boot from there .I got the iomega 2GB Jaz Drive .It came with two 2gb cards .I can set the SCSI ID from 0-7 and turn termination on and off ,so i thought this would work .I downloaded the newest 1.72 os ,set the ID to 0 and term. off (the only way my Pc recognizes the Drive) ,partitioned the card to 100mb (also was trying without) ,formated the card to FAT(from win 7 and another time in DOS Console) and copyed the .exe and the .SYS file to it .Then switched term. on ,put the ID to 5 and tryed to boot .The MPC is searching the ID from 0-5 ,then says MPC BOOT 1.72 for a sec. and then no system file ....i tryed to simply rename the .SYS file to .BIN ...no luck .Im stuck at this point .Been trying to wrap my head around this for 2 dayz know ...

PLEASE CAN SOME1 HELP ME ON THIS

As you probably already have noticed ,i am a damn noob on the MPC and to this Forum .Have always been dreaming to own a MPC since 13 ....know i need to make this thing work !

Is the floppy drive's power connector loose inside the unit?
I'm thinking there may be a short circuit if the molex connector from the power lead of the floppy drive is missing. I've seen that happen before.

It needs to have both the MPC2000.EXE and MPC2000.SYS OS files in the root directory of the disk.

Renaming the .SYS to .BIN will not work.

Not even sure if you can format it on a computer, and copy the OS files onto it, you 'might' have to format the disk in the MPC and copy the files using the MPC copy OS function from a floppy disk, but I am not sure.

No ,nothing loose in the unit .I cant see any damage on the board either .you would see something ,when there would be a short circuit ,i guess ?The Molex and the Data cabel were till today connected to a pc floppy drive .I disconnected both cabel for the Mpc to boot from the SCSI Drive .

It has both files in the root directory .Root directory means no folders ,just the two files on the Disk/Card ,right ?
I tried with and without renaming the .SYS file .
I am pretty sure you can format it on Pc and copy the files onto it ,since i read a few threads on how people did it ...

any further ideas ?

Maybe someone can link me to the OS 1.00 version ?Or send me a copy ?Maybe the MPC is searching for that older sys file .

Forgot to say ,when connecting the scsi drive to the pc ,i use a scsi to usb cable .when connecting to the mpc i use regular scsi 50 pin to 25 pin ...

If you needed the OS on Zip disc, I'd be able to help you. But I don't have any Jaz discs.

i thought you could mail me the zip files .wouldnt that work ?

Unfortunately if OS 1.72 won't boot up, no other version will make a difference either.

When i turn the Mpc on ,the first thing that shows up is "MPC2000 BOOT ROM V.1.00"
Then its going through the scsi id ports ,finds the right one ,finds the MPC2000 V.1.72 ,but then says ,"NO SYSTEM FILE" ,for any reason .
Maybe the machine is expecting the .SYS file from the V.1.00 .I mean maybe i have to boot the 1.00 Version and when thats done ,updating the system in the MPC .

Please be so kind and send me the files on my email adress ,if you have the time for .I can at least try it

I only have the 1.72 OS. The reason why you see the Boot Rom 1.0 displayed on your screen is because the MPC has a boot room chip installed which gives the machine instructions to boot an OS disc from a floppy, flash ram, or SCSI devices. It doesn't contain the OS nor does the boot rom version pertain to the 1.0 version of the OS.

Well, i think ill have to try it with a normal zip drive then . Today some dude, who leases mpc, tr 808, sp 1200.... (i doubt i said this right )is comming to help me out with one. I will update here after that.

Maybe you could test if a Zip disk formatted as FAT in your computer, with the OS files copied onto it from your computer, is recognised as a SCSI boot disk?

Well, its getting recognized from the mpc. I dont Know if as a Boot scsi, thou.

The guy is Not comming Today... His 250 MB zip drive is broken. He Has a 100 MB drive as Well, but just a 250 MB zip Disk, with the OS formated on a mpc 2000.......

Just no luck....

the two files you should make sure you have on the disk are:

MPC2000 (this is the .exe, it should be 192kb)
MPC2000.SYS (this one should be 131kb)


you may have to rename the files..
