chopping by ear possible / fast chopping workflow 2kXL?

coming from Ensoniq Samplers i much prefer by ear (number) chopping.
just got a Xl and wanna get the best out of it.

the waveform chopping confuses me and i prefer by ear.

So can i actually chop by ear without looking at the screen?
also the waveform seems to reload when i want to chop or something like that!?

No, there is no way to chop by ear with the 2xl. You HAVE TO look at the display. As soon as you try to look somewhere else the 2xl will pull out a whip, hittin your behind wit it.

yeah i thought too what should stop me from it but on my (brief!) try simply turning the data wheel when i trim mode didnt really change a thing but reload the waveforms...

probably i didnt take the time. But i am learning this mashine step by step.

any worklfow examples liek for fast sampling/naming/chopping/assigning to pads would def. help

If you are in trim mode and the cursor is at either the start or the end point (which are represented as a number just like in other samplers) you should hear a difference when turning the wheel. A second way to move the start or endpoint is moving the NoteVariation Fader while pressing the shift button.
You don't have to wait till the waveform is displayed completely. Its slow as hell on this machine. IDK if you used to chop at a slower pitch to be more accurate but you can do this by pressing F4 (PARAM) put the cursor on Tune: press 120 and then ENTER and your sample is tuned down an octave therefore its slower and in some cases easier/more accurate to set the startpoint.
Don't belief what the display show (especially at the endpoint cause if you do you'll set the endpoint too early.

cool thanks for the slide tip, have to repair mine first but will sure be usefull!

i however encountered my first issue.

using zones (is this the best way?) i can chop allright quite fast.

however it createas a pgm and puts sounds on the first pads without me being able to tell wich sound where to. Also i couldnt find out so far how to erase certain sounds from a pad.
redo zone chopping after pressing "do it" also wont work it seems?

but i a learning this fast, its just much more sub menues than i am used to

That's called slice, you don't have to use it to chop. Delete sounds in trim. Program sounds to pads in program.

yup got it that far by now. seems like using zone/slice for larger samples and trim only for smaller hits is the way?

i have one issue with storage....

i have an internal cf reader installed. but if i use save all pgms + sounds it only saves the pgm and i have to save each snd manually, same with loading...

should i alwys save APS?

dunno whats wrong there

isn't there a way to make the sounds not get assigned in the window that comes up where you push do it?

dunno but if i follow a certain order in my workflow i get along:
sample all parts first, go Program and assign, than fine adjust chops

if i dont, i ll loose assignments i made inbetween.



now when i tried storing pgm+sounds worked... i dont know why it worked now and not earlier...


OH anyone knows a way to clean memory w/o having to restart?
