If i had one I wouldnt use sample libraries. the charm is in the effect of the box when sampling sounds into it. Thats how I use the mpc 60ii when i rock it. senseless to not sample into it for the sounds you use imho... thats the charm... the grit that is imparted on the samples is all the fan fare with these boxes.

I have both the prophet 2000 and 2002. I can tell you that its the best thing i have ever bought.. if you spend some time searching, you can find them for about the same price as a ensoniq mirage, and they are way more interesting!

minus the sequencer off course, there are some big differences in the architecture.
the 2000/2 can do a little more of one thing because its a keyboard sampler and the 440 a bit more of the other because its more of a ''drum sampler''

the 440 holds 32 samples and the 2000/2 holds 16.

the 2000/2 has an LFO that can modulate the filter and amplitude and has vibrato.

the 440 has no decay in its envelope.

the 2000/2 has full control over the filter resonance, while with the studio 440 you have to mod the CEM3389 to make them resonate.
with this mod you loose the panning control parameter, i don't think thats a problem..

with the 440 on the other hand you can assign the envelope to the pitch
they both have filter envelopes! really cool stuff..

they do compare a hell of a lot better then the emulator and the sp12/1200!


also the 2000/2 is not able to read 440 disks, while the 440 is able to read 2000/2 disks including parameters.

and don't forget the prophet 3000 !!!!

I would prefer the studio 440 over the sp1200 everyday !!

I could get an sp1200 reissue model 7031 for about 1100euros.

Can someone tell about the differences between the original ssm filters and the op-amps? Someone who has used both models? 7030 and 7031.
