Problems loading an os upgrade floppy

Hi guys. Back in September I bought my mpc 2000xl off of ebay. Until recently I haven't had the money to guy a hard drive for storage but I do now. I was told I need to upgrade my mpc (os ver. 1.11) with a 1.4 os upgrade. I bought one and received it in the mail and popped it in the machine and pressed shift + load. Nothing showed up in the file field. I talked to the person I bought it from and they send me another for free. I just received the disk today and put it in. The file field shows two files. Each with random characters for names. The "type:" field shows question marks. Did I do something wrong or is there something wrong with my mpc? I really hope it's not the latter. I just want this thing up and running asap!

Lampdog is pointing you in the right direction. Get a copy of the MPC2000xl Operators Manual and pg 169 is where you will find help for your issue. But do read the manual from beginning to end. This will help in getting to know the MPC2000Xl really well.

After you have upgraded the os, check there is version to confirm.

It's the two files that show up on the floppy. I can't find a solution in the manual. I'm following all the directions but obviously I can't select the MPC2KXL.exe or MPC2KXL.says file because they don't show up.
