Replacement Floppy Drive for MPC 2000

Recently my floppy drive just won't work anymore an my MPC 2000.
I know I can load my O/S from my ZIP drive, but I am wondering If I want to replace the Floppy drive with a new one do I have to order a Speacial MPC 2000 floppy drive or is it your average floppy drive you can get anywhere?
Does anyone know the Part Number for replacement floppy drive?

Normal PC floppy drive is what it is. Go to ANY computer store and get one.

Because the Fools at my local Music Store (where I bought my MPC) said they have to order a special one from Japan and it will cost me $200.00. (Liars?)

So I just have to go to any PC store and ask for a regulsar floppy drive? Is there a proper model number for that? Because I know nothing about computers and I garuntee the people at the PC store will have no idea what an MPC is.

im looking at the floppy that i took out of my MPC when i changed it for a zip100.. it looks like thd floppy drives are made by TEAC.. heres what the little sticker on the back of mine says:

"TEAC FD-235HF A549 -U5
p/n 193077A5-49
s/n U264920 MT"

on the underside, theres a small print out sticker:
(m) TOZ21
(Tom, Oscar, Zenith, #2, #1)

it really does look like any old ordinary floppy.. but with any luck, these numbers may be able to help you find The exact type that AKAI's putting in their MPCs... good luck.. and Keep Hardware Alive ;D

I'm pretty sure any floppy drive will work. It shouldn't set you back more than $15, so it's worth the gamble.

any modern internal floppy will work - just buy the cheapest one you can find.

Like everyone in this thread stated homie, don't listen to the music store guys advice, get a cheap regular floppy drive from any computer store and you should be fine..

Can I do the Instalation myself?

Yes, it's not hard at all. Just pay attention to what your doing cause you don't wanna mess up your baby (MPC) ya dig.

this is the exact floppy replacement that VST charged me $140 plus labor for... entering in FD-235HF A549 in google came up with only one link, the one to this post... im trying to find somewhere i can buy a few of these cheaper somewhere... NOTE, the floppy drive MUST have configurable jumpers on the back of it to work... NOTE, my MPC is an MPC60II, so this drive must able to be configured to be a DD floppy drive, as well as a HD floppy drive...

I've got one of those FD-235HF A549 drives for you, with the jumpers and everything. It came out of my 2kXL when I installed the 250mb ZIP. I probably would have dumped it in the thrash the next time I clean out my desk drawers.

I just replaced my floppy drive a couple weeks ago and all it cost me was $16 for the drive at CompUSA and 40 minutes of my time . Sooper easy installation (at least for a regular 2000 , I don't know about an XL) .

It's the same drive..

I don't know why people keep thinking these little floppy drives
are "special" when it's been said many times on these board that
they are not special..
