card reader error?

has anyone had issues with there mpc 1000 memory card reader? every time i try to load or save anything it says please insert card i have two different cards i have tried using 128mg and 32 mg also it won't load sounds from either cards still says please insert cards? please let me know how to get this fixed thanks!!!

look inside to see if there are any pins bent over. open the back up and verify the ribbon cable is attached on both sides. buy a new PCB at mpcstuff.com or ebay

dang the bottom right pin is crunched up.....any tutorials on how to take the back off and look at the ribbon thing? is it a pretty easy fix to replace the card slot or can i try to straigtn the pin out??

It will most likely be the bent pin, not the ribbon cable connection.

Depending on how bent it is, you might be able to straighten it, but you describe it as crunched up, so I doubt it.

Some people have fixed them by de-soldering the MPC card reader socket from the card reader PCB, and soldering in a cheap replacement socket.

If you don't have the skills to do that, or access to someone that does at a decent price, your only other option is probably to replace the card reader PCB with a new one.

does akai have a repair center if i can send it in i have no idea how to solder and I'm afraid ill do more damage to it just trying to get it apart....not sure what to do with it or if should try and sell it or get it fixed I've tried guitar center and another big music store bailey bros which is supposed to be a official akai dealer according to the webite but they are not ...thanks for the helps

no man look on ebay for a whole replacement PCB and bolt it in. or ill fix it for ya for a price. less than forat will thats for sure.

They don't have many parts on that site, but what they do is cheap compared to alternative suppliers!
