Many times, when there was, or was no specific rule, a lot of people made chill records instead of a hard boppin' Hip Hop beat. In an actual "beat battle”, with hardcore Hip Hop heads a chill song wouldn’t work, for a beat battle.

chill, ya I've been around it a long time. and i actually have respect for the artists doing their thing. i personally can't stand the music. its too repetitious. and generally boring to me. my closest cousin owns and runs Overeasy records. and a dj here in my town i have been pretty close friends with for ten years owns and runs Treasure Grooves. i get in debates with these guys all the time. at the end of the day we are all just beat heads.

big ups to the r&b tracks last week. its cool to hear you guys get out the box. and i apologize for not finishing and submitting to my own challenge. it was more hip hop and i couldn't get a good enough change up going. and then my end of week was turned around where i couldn't make it back to the beat.

i have a gut feeling Saadyah will be smashing us this week.

Yup I can vouch for that, took me months to realize my approach was wrong, with Beat battles you won't get voted for making an outright banger, I'd come harder more technical, really put work into my mix knowledge, but nothing would get votes, yet when I compared it to some winners it was some weird ambient soft thing, or as is the case on Stonesthrow, if you sound like Flying Lotus or Dilla, then your away. Battle is a hard word, beats should be hard and anthem like, I have in my head, Simon Says, and that MOP classic, and most of the Army Of the Pharoahs beats. Least to say my first few months of battling on Stonesthrow confused me, it was quite simple though, it's not a Hiphop battle, it's avant garde. Did learn a lot though, and learnt how to make softer beats. It is about what you want to get out of it, and learn.

Obi-Dan-Kenobi, I'm not sure which Simon Says you mean, there is only one song I know with such titel. Which is by Master Ace.

Great sample selection. I tried to go with the rules but couldn't make it work for me. Here's what I came up with. Though a no entry, I didn't want such a sample to go to waste. Good luck to whoever takes this.

I’ve see that documentary. In fact Detroit is the birthplace of this House thing.

And the name House is because they used to break into a old empty WareHouse, so every time they went to the (ware) House, when they gathered to have a fun time. Connect electric wires, for illegally tapping electricity. Similar as in early Hip Hop culture, thou it wasn’t called Hip Hop yet back then.
