Reaper VS FL studio

Okay so basically everyone has FL studio but whats so great about it?

I can get reaper a lot cheaper then the 200 dollar edition of FL which is the only edition allowing audio recording which is funny cause I can do that on my trial of reaper..


The thing I really want to do with a DAW is start incorporating synths and bass-lines into my sample based shit

So does reaper come with a lot of good synths and effects or will that be another investment

I hear FL does come with a lot of synths and if you buy the 200 dollar edition but im wondering if its really worth the extra money

Anyway if you have either of the 2 mentioned daws let me know what you personally like / dislike about them iv got a few days to make a decision and i dont want to be stuck with one i hate!

Reaper has no plugins, but you can find plenty of free VSTs. There's a Top 30 Freeware topic in one of these sub forums that's got plenty of links to half decent stuff. Otherwise, prepare yourself to spend a good amount of money.

FL may be worth it for the money, and there's tons of plugins you can buy in their shop. They're all VST/AU compatible as well, so you can use them with any DAW. Give the demo a try and see whether you like FL better than Reaper.

2 differnt concepts if you ask me. Both "feel" diffent. Reaper has a typical DAW feeling like Cubase or logic (multitrack audio and midi recording) and FL feels more like a Groovebox (like Reason) it's more like an instrument itself (at least to me )
I wouldn't make a multitrack audio recording on FL. I wouldn't make a song with many VST instruments on reaper. Although both are able to do everything. But like I said thats me.
The FX section (EQ, compressor) in reaper is very nice.
There is a lot of freeware VST and VST instruments out there some you really can forget but some is REALLY dope.
The ones on the yearly KVR development challanges are a good place to start.

You don't need THAT many VSTs but choose some good ones.

reaper for multi track recording (for example recording the 8 outs into the computer)

fl studio for mangling samples and making music etc.... however when you consider they both take 3rd party VST pluggins they are both sequencers that you can load up with what ever tool you want.

ive made beats in both.

reaper is better for audio, i found FL is better for midi.

the midi editing in reaper is still horrible, but editing audio compared to FL is a dream.

I used to make beats in FL and score live stuff in reaper, wasnt too much trouble bouncing between the two.
