Yamaha bought out steinberg. Cubase& Nunedo users

What yall think about this one? Cubase prolly'll be industry standard in couple of years, being that software production is the future and most folks use pcs as opposed to macs (logic). And protools is expensive as hell. Cubase/Nuendo users what did you think are some of the strong points and weakness of this program.

I'm thinkin down the road, it'll force the LE line of Pro Tools to come down in price, because Yamaha is already a huge name, and it'll be easier for them to compete with Digidesign. Overall, I think things will get cheaper on both sides, making it even easier to make the decision to go one way or another for home recording. We'll see.

I see that vision too!

This was a huge relief to me because when they were up for sale the rumors were that digi was gonna buy them, and digi would have just sliced them up into non existence, and since I love nuendo beyond all other programs, that would have sucked. The old buy out and bankrupt your competition. It wouldn't be a problem if digi had a good product, but their whole catalog is a huge rip off.

Yamaha on the other hand, is a great company, and they don't have a software division, so steinberg basically became their software division, and I'm sure they will feed them well to tackle digi and the apple/logic market.

I really don't want a winner in that struggle, 3 good products are better since people have different tastes and needs, but the days of digi are coming to an end, crappy strategies of processor inefficiency to get people to upgrade and just buying out competition instead of beating them with product, adam smith would puke!

Anybody have any insight on this? I've been thinkin about getting a 002r, that's why I'm curious.

I'm not so sure all this is good news...... It's not very likely Cubase and Nuendo will continue things like Mackie HUI support. They'll probably start doing the same thing as Digi; slowly optimize their software to work with Yamaha products, untill it becomes impossible to use other (read cheaper) hardware.

That won't happen with Yamaha I figure, since tie ins with hardware is what sunk pre midi interfaces (except CV of course and what is hurting PT now. Apple taking emagic is interesting, and I wonder what their bottom line looks like after dropping PC support. Apple does some shyt really well so it wouldn't surprise me if they did it right.

yamaha products will surely be integrated, but strategies that work for Steinberg will not be dropped by yamaha, that would just cripple their investment. If the HUI support helps steinberg, it will stay. But since Digidesign bought M-audio, I wouldn't put it past them to cause conflicts with other platforms to sell more PT. Watch those driver updates!

Apple are already pissin me off, not even a year after they've bought emagic. They doing the same thing as digi; making latest versions of their software so powerfull you can only run it properly on the very latest hardware. And guess who's selling the hardware (@ crazy prices too).

True dat about the latest hardware, but you're not stuck with G5's, AMD based systems work too, right? And they're pretty cheap compared to a G5.

Yeah, it was a dickless move, but they have done great things for logic as far as features and stability, I think logic stretches the envelope the most, but their system isn't intuitive like the steinberg stuff, and they tend to forget to make the basic functions simple, so even the basic tasks become somewhat complicated. Plenty of genius in there though.

I think this is really great. Eventualy Yamaha should have the dream package,
