Keep turntable playing in background while chopping beats

Hi, I'm really new to the mpc.. I've got the manual, and that guy's massive starter pdf but I've got a question that doesn't seem to be covered in either material..

that is, I use my mpc as a phono-preamp.. in that I now just listen to tunes using the mpc, not only just for chopping stuff up and making beats. The thing is that it seems like the only time that it works as a preamp is while being in REC SAMPLE mode, but is there any way that it could just constantly play tunes in the background - while in main, for instance?

Hopefully this is a simple thing cuz that would be so convenient and I'd be ratherr pleased.

I appreciate it the information, I'm gonna exploit my christmas rights to get a mixer

I need to exploit my rights, too.
I can't seem to pull the plug trigger and get a new 2-3 channel mixer. I've been pawnshop jumpin all year and I'm a cheap ass. All I need is a new fader on my old one for scratches, can't find one.

What mixer do you have SILIS?

Or turn on input through...how my homie and I sketch out songs live style after I load up drums and make a sequence. You still will obviously need the MPC on when just listening to stuff...
