Has anyone tried the REN and Kontrol S keyboard together in the Mpc software in standalone mode? I just wanted to know if it's possible to do and will all the KOMPLETE Kontrol software and keyboard functions work properly

U can use it as a midi keyboard but it has limited features as in the scale, chord ,arp browsers features only work In the komplete kontrol software and not in midi mode
You can create templates in controller editor for other vsts but currently you can only do 1 page which equals 8 rotary encoders , but this will be updated ,maschine has more

I have all you described and it works perfectly together as long as you are coo with

1. The light guide, chorder and arpeggiator only works on Komplete Kontrol instruments; no other vsts or au's.

2. The midi chords not shown in the ren software edit screen; think stylus rmx(you hear chords but you see ONE note recorded), you will love the combo because its TOTAL RECALL when you use say 10 Komplete Kontrol instances the ren opens up like it never closed a session with 10 different Komplete Kontrol gui's playing at once.

 3. Its a workflow preference because you CAN NOT switch tracks with the keyboard so once you switch to track 2 from the ren's surface, you hit the button on the KS61 to switch to the coresponding Komplete Kontrol instance to control that instrument on track 2.

:!: On maschine 2.2 software you hit the KS61 arrow button down.....then you on track 2 and guess what? You dont have to scroll thru 10 little pictures of instances in the Komplete Kontrol gui to control the correct instrument because you quickly pressed the track button and the KS61 is still controlling track 1(like on the ren).....IT IS track 2; it IS maschine the controller.

So.....Now that we got a sneak peek at the 1.8 update, the MPC software chorder should make the Komplete Kontrol icing on the cake rather than a GO TO feature for some of the beat-making duties.

It's also really easy to play chords on by switching the key mode to easy ,the scale is moved to only the White keys so you can easily play various progressions , invert chords add extra notes or replace notes in chords from the scale , getting into this so much I'm note even using chord mode ,plus it's helped me understand the theroy side a whole lot more ,

1. Wow, that's some bullshit! I don't see why at least they don't allow the light guide to work. I can see why the chorder and arp don't work being they are controlled by the software, but the lights should at least work so you can see the chords you need to play.

2. Good thing is that at least with the Ren's built in chord mode, the chords do show up as multiple notes, not just single ones.

Outside of maschine you have to use the kk software ,inside maschine u don't
It all works in maschine with 3rd party vst , And the chords show up in maschine with the keyboard and the pads , you can now record midi from the pads straight to daw from maschine as a plug in without being in controller mode ,instead of just drag and drop etc, but when using maschine as a plug in u lose the scale chord arp features of the keyboard ,

So, another thing that comes from NOT having a Maschine controller JUST THE KS61 and the REN is

1. Press BROWSE in the MPC you HAVE to use the plugin KK gui

2. Press BROWSE in the Maschine standalone the same KK gui shows up but you also control the MPC-inspired groove box called Maschine 2.2....

PLUS

 IT OPENS UP THE FULL MENU OF SCALES AND CHORDS left dormant in the Komplete Kontrol v1.1 untill you use Maschine as a plugin that is.

oh and Maschine 2.2 IS FREE to KS owners

*Now with VST support and third party plug-ins. With the introduction of the Komplete Kontrol S-Series keyboards last year, NI established a new level of integration for its software instruments. The company is now expanding on this technology with the addition of VST support this summer, opening up the Komplete Kontrol software to third party plug-ins.

*Updated Komplete Kontrol software. Komplete Kontrol 1.1 (coming May 2015) improvements include ability to route and record MIDI output from Komplete Kontrol’s Smart Play functions into your DAW or send MIDI to outboard gear. Adjust touch strip parameters and mod wheel functions directly from the hardware. Save, recall, and manage presets more easily. Furthermore, 2015 will also see an addition to the S-Series keyboard portfolio.
