jibber wrote:I have my turntable slightly out of reach. The trick is to drop the needle a little prior to the part you wanna sample. Just put it 5 seconds before the part you want, which gives you plenty of time to slide over with the chair to the sampler, and wait another 2 seconds before you hit record... It's not rocket science... :mrgreen: :wink:

PS: Always nice to have a listen to your beats again (your sig). Very nice music! :smoker:

haha well if you wanna do 48 chops those 5 seconds add up to 4 minutes :D but I get your point, we all do it differently.

+ Thanks, always liked your music aswell! :nod:

Nice setup coz, it looks comfy as ****!

Yeah, nice setup Coz! I guess your turntable is even further away from your samplers than mine? :-D

@selecta
What kind of keyboard is it you are using (the big one) if i might ask?

@marrelarre
On the SP, i think i never did 48 chops, haha... in that case it would be nicer to have the turntable close, i agree. Now since i have a 2500 again, i can just sample one big piece and then chop it up... did that yesterday and ended up with 36 chops. :roll: :mrgreen:

PS: Started using the SP for drums (and as sequencer) and to trigger samples from the 2500... i really liike the sound i get from that combination. Might sound better if the 2500 was an ASR, 3000, 950... but the modern features of the 2500 make it just so easy and quick (to chop up and assign samples, etc.). :)

@jibber: that is a yamaha p-90 stage piano, 88key graded hammer action keybed.

when i was shopping for a fullsize piano action keyboard with a great keybed and a small footprint, i compared it to the roland rd-700, the korg sp-250, a kawai stage piano and a used yamaha s-90 and the p90 won, because its keybed has the best feel by far (the kawai is close but was more than double the price at the time) and the used yamaha s-90 had to many synth functions i did not need despite also having a really great keybed.

Thanks, it looked like a nice keybed, so i asked.
I use an older yamaha kx88 that i like very much myself for the same reason... the action of the keys, how it feels. The kx88 is actually pretty "weighty" and has kind of a "slow key action". This can be hard if you would want to play very fast and technical stuff, but it's the closest to how i remember the playing feeling of the piano we had at home when i grew up... :mrgreen:

@jibber: exactly! that is what i meant - the somewhat "slow" and "heavy" feel of the keys is really great for playing things that need feeling like grand piano, strings, pads,...

for faster sounds like synth leads, organs or horns i mostly use the keys of the alesis micron - they don´t feel great at all but the are very light action.
there is also a korg m1 and a wavestation ex in the cupboard in case i need yet another great feeling synth action keybed.

the micron and the p-90 are both hooked up to the midi inputs of the mpc so i can play either keyboard with any sound from the mpc, my synths or from logic.

It's there under the desk but hidden in the shade of the crappy pic. It's sitting on top of my gear graveyard until I can find a permanent place for it. 8)

Nice.
I have the 950.
Does the 900 have any serious limitations compared with the 950?

Very nice bit of kit. It speeds up the process because it's so fully featured, but it definitely highlights the fact that mixing is a tough game. You could completely destroy a mix in minutes with it if you make a few wrong moves! I quite like that level of danger though. :)
