Splurged and bought a 60

Well..a MPC 60 popped up on ebay earlier this evening for less than $500 with shipping. I had to have it....so I bought it. Its in solid condition. Not 100% sure if it has the SCSI installed, but if it doesnt, oh well. Im hype...as this is my 4th mpc I've bought this year...(the others I bought to flip on ebay). Plan is to keep this one for a while...keep it in good condition and maybe sell in a few years for a nice profit

But in the meantime, I will be learning this machine and putting it to use. What are some basics I need to know about this machine?

Congratulation on your purchase! I don’t own the 60 but own the 3000, but from what I heard they are very similar in terms of functionality. Because you owned previous MPC models, get ready to do less but read this quote,

People keep askin if the 3k does the same things then the newer ones.. no.. it does less but it does it better.

So in return you will get a better sound.

No doubt. I'll be downloading a manual soon and doing some reading up on that. Should have it next week...IM stoked. I know the machine has its limits, but paired up with my asr10, I think I have pretty good foundation to work with.

Nice combo. If you’re using the 60 solely by itself, learn to sample small portions, truncate the sample and time down to save memory, you can also have each pad cut each other off. Another thing I like is that when you sample in, you can sample in really hot and it sounds amazing. Don’t be afraid to sample in hot, it’s not about what the machine is saying, it’s about what you’re hearing.

Had my 60 for a few months now and love it. Yeah get the scsi, cf card and max memory and itll be a joy......Use mine for house music -

Same here only had it for almost 2 years its a great machine. I dont use floppies on mine as they are hard to come by, FYI it uses 720 k floppies, what are those dd? I think yes.

I sample in the mp, make the beat, then track it. Great workflow. I will prob stick a floppy emulator in it or a cf reader but definitely can do as it is

I was thinking of doing the same. My audio interface is 8 inputs, so tracking wont be a problem. I figure tracking would probably be easier than trying to find a scsi card for it, unless I came across one for super cheap.

This is my "old school" no computer setup...It doesnt get much use, as I am mainly an FL Studio guy, but its a nice change of pace. No SCSI on either, so basically I just sample the drums I want from FL into the 60 and sample records into the ASR. Got the OS eproms on the way. Next will be new pad sensors and a new backlight.
