MPC-2000 classic vs MPC-2000XL Sound quality

Is it true that MPC-2000 classic sounds better than MPC-2000XL?
Ive heard this from a number of people and even read it in the forum
I can say that MPC-2000 classic sounds better to my ears than Elektron Analog Rhythm sampling (sample rate on AR is 48KHZ 16 bit mono)
I have both and have done side by side!!!!
I also think MPC-2000 classic sounds better than Elektron Octatrak (sample rate on that is 24bit 48KHZ Stereo)--owned that one and sold it

to get an answer to this you need A/Bs with many of these machines especially from the era when the xl was released. IDK if there are differeces but I've read that early xls sound the same as 2000classic and later ones sound different but this might just be rumours without A/Bs.

The octatrack ultimatey sounds much better than the mpc2000 in so many ways its ridiculas.When you start bending the sound aound in the ot its like the bionic man of samplers.BUT-its also got a kind of elktron toy simple sound to it as well.So i guess you might prefer the more neutral mpc sound.If i was to choose from th xl and the OG id go for the latter,thats the one i had first(mpc)and got amazing results from.

edit-when i had the OT the actual sampling rate was 16 bits.Maybe you could import 24 bits.Anyways its what you wanna sample.Some things will sound st8 up better on the ot or mpc.....last time i had the mpc2000 it was seriously lagging behind the mpc4k in most respects.But its got a vibe to it.

What differences are you noticing between the 2000 and 2000XL? I thought they both use the same sample engine as the s2000?

They both sound good in their own way.

IMO mpc2000xl has slightly more detail as its based on newer circuitry where as the mpc2000 sounds like the s2000 sampler warm and punchy but slightly less detailed.

Both are pretty much amazing machines but xl has an updated o/s with better features. If i had to pick one again it would be the xl for the cf card and folders option.

I don't think the quality of sampling on my Mpc 2000 is particularly good.
It's good and clean and loed enough, but you can't do much to it if it's a bit hissy and stuff.
The main part is its sequencing and arranging.
Which IS the shiznit.

Non of these mpc's ( ie 2000 or xl )
Have the complexities of sound manipulation of there stand alone samplers.
I think 2000's are a bit quick
And 2000 xl's sound a bit lazy.

I think half of the things people are saying about the quality of machines is all in their imagination.

It reminds me of this character I used to bump into from time to time who would tell me about how his SP1200 is unique because it will not sound like another SP1200 and some bs about how there is more 'emotion' in the kick drums he samples into it vs other machines.

well... i guess the importance is.

but, the difference of sound from machine to machine could be true to a degree. I know that even from 2000xl to 2000xl there can be differences... some guys on here have compared different models in their own studio and found some differences in brightness etc... probably a lot to do with the difference in the wear of certain parts etc...

But really, it probably doesn't really matter once a song is complete and has gone to post production.

I owned MPC-2000 classic and now I own MPC-2000XL, and I think the sound characteristic of both MPC are really indistinguishable, if there is difference.

@mr_debauch no I agree with most of what you're saying. One machine to the next isn't always going to have a finite reproduction of sound across the board. That's how we get into these debates about coloring and the weirdos talking about "emotion" and other crazy shit.

I have both the 2K and the XL and find them both almost indistinguishable which I believe has to do more with electronics wear and tear than the actual 2000/XL sample engine itself.
