Just got an S1000! Card readers?

So I just picked up an s1000! This will be my first rackmount sampler and will be used with my MPC 3000.

I have an external SCSI card reader for my 3K, and I imagine I'll want the same for my 1000. My question is: i imagine if you end up getting a bunch of samplers, you might end up buying a ton of card readers -- which tend to cost a bunch more than the sampler.

Do people with multiple samplers, tend to have a couple externals that they flip between whatever they're using?

Also, I'm a little out of the loop on the recent CF options, since I got my 3K a few years ago. Is there anything new other there (internal or external) that's reasonably affordable?

Prices of the ones Kneebone mentioned are getting a bit out of hand on eBay...there used to be a site selling them for around 90 USD but his source dried and he closed the store.
AFAIK the ones i linked you to (check his other models, too) are the only ones still being made.

On my 3K, I have OS 3.5 and am able to do the hybrid partitions where I can view the files on my 3K and on my computer. Is something like this available with the 1000? or will the files only be viewable in the 1000 and not on my computer?

Though I think the 3K reads s1000 files, right?

I'd make a guess and say that the 3K will read s1000 files.
I know Akai s3000 can read s1000 and s950 files, and 3K is from the same era as s3000.

To view the files on your computer, you'll need a dedicated app like Chicken Systems Translator. Whenever I want to, for example, back up my Akai CF card to computer, I use Translator for that.

I suppose I could also save my s1000 pgms / snds to a CF (when I have a reader), and put that in my MPC and store those on a hybrid partition on one of those cards, which can then be put in my computer

Seems a little complicated, but not terrible to do a the start/end of each day

It's a scsi switch box.
My idea was to have one chain of scsi storage units (zip, CF, Hard drive) connected through the box to four samplers and switch between them to give access to the storage (one at a time).
It would save having to keep changing plugs over.

I see no reason why this wouldn't work although I suspect you would need to power down before switching between channels to prevent scsi problems.

Has anyone tried anything similar?

haven't got one myself, shipping from australia is really expensive.

iv'e got an s1000hd so i'm o.k for storage.

I've read somewhere that these things are often involved in blowing SCSI fuses. But I found these really interesting too

I also see that the S1000 can send samples and programs via MIDI. And I successfully transferred samples from the 1000 to the 3K via a floppy. So that works.

So maybe I send the programs to the MPC via MIDI and be able to store everything on my computer via the CF reader from there

btw. I have now obtained a switch box similar to the one above.
I will try it out and report back as to whether it works ok.

If possible, use SCSI. It's WAY faster and is what I do. I load whatever I want into Recycle, set my markers and send straight to the S1000. It auto creates a program and assigns groups as well.

So how are you sending from recycle to the s1000? Cf?
