SP 303 Adaptor Problem

Hello There

I've recently purchased a SP-303. It did come with the original adaptor, but unfortunately i cant use the adaptor, because i have a different connection at my home (europe)… So the first thing i did, was plug in the adaptor from my TR-8. It worked for about 2 Seconds then the power of the 303 was gone. Then i was going to the electricity shop to ask someone for a new adaptor. The guy told me then, that it is dangerous to plug in other adaptors for a particular instrument. It know make sense to me, but as i am a newby i didnt think of that before. However, he gave me a new adaptor and i tried it another time. Know, the adaptor have a red signal, but i dont have any power on my 303….

Im pretty scared of going any further, with trying out adaptors. What should i do know?

you maybe burned out the sp-303....

you have to make sure the polarity of the adapter is correct for the 303... that is the most important thing. Then make sure it's the right voltage, and at least as high amps.

is there any way to repair the SP if its burdned out?

I dont know... I made sure not to put a bad adapter on mine.

I hope 303 has some kind of protection for that kind of situation.

You dont need to be a scientist to know not to do what you just did.
i hope its just a burned fuse.

if its **** up... i have a 303 to sell and i'm from Europe and i have a european adapter i dont need it since i have 505. Where is your location?

hello again. the adaptor problem is solved! ive just tried it with a new adaptor and it suddenly worked out.

but i guess it would be to easy to have not any further problems with this beauty:
problem: CANT CHANGE TEMPO

ive tried it the manual way; PATTERN SELECT (button lit) and then push TIME/BPM but the TIME/BPM button dont lit, and on the screen it says: "Ptn". I cant change the tempo with the CTRL2 knob

what am i doing wrong? i dont have a smart card inside yet, is this maybe the problem, or should it work without?

PPS: ive tried to register at the SP-Forums, but theres a secret password you have to set, someone a clue what i have to type in? (PM welcome)

people get scared about plugging the wrong adapter into stuff, but its acutally pretty simple, read the user manual and find out what adapter you need. ( most of the time it's written on the unit itself next to the power socket)

almost nothing i own has it's original adapter, and nothing has exploded. just match up the voltages and polarity. most stuff doesn't care about the power rating but stay in the right ballpark.

pro tip: if you really can't find any info, open it up and look at the voltage regulators, google them online and see what input voltage they are rated for. also look at what way around the protection diodes are.

remember 12vdc 500ma is 12vdc 500ma, akai roland and yamaha do not have special electricity.

don't just plug stuff in and hope for the best, do a bit of research and you'll save time and monney.

Read the manual. That is the easiest way to find out.

i was actually trying it while reading the manual.
thats what i tried to do;

on point 2: if i press the TIME/BPM, the button wont lit and on the screen it says: "Ptn" – no tempo.... :/

Maybe your Time/BPM button is dead. Does it work when not in pattern mode?

no. it doesn't work at all.
i dont have a smartcard inside, could that be the reason, or should it work without?

No.. you have to take it off pattern mode to change bpms of samples from what I remember. One knob does fine tuning.. the other does a doubling and halving.
