On the 2000 (non-xl) can it go from rec/overdub to play and back without stopping the sequencer?

I think if you start recording in overdub you can hit overdub to stop the recording but keep the sequence playing. When you want to overdub again just hold play and hit overdub and it will put you back in the overdub mode. I think I tried it with Record but it didn't work
I feel like Diamond D, the best producer on the mic...
