In Feb. The Rens price is changing

Got the Feb. issue of the Musicians Friend catalog and the Ren is going back to $999.99 so If anybody was thinking of getting one grab one now save yourself the $300 just a heads up.

Thats good news. Im glad Akai has reaffirmed their commitment to the Ren by asking for a commensurate commitment in turn, from its customer base. The Ren is about quality and pride of ownership. Like Q-Tip said, "its not no bullcrap"

and for anyone who doesnt know, you can talk a music store into $300 off a 1grand rrp product any time of the year

What I am even more happy about is that akai has affirmed their commitment to the analog synth world with the new 4 voice they put out.... There won't be anything besides pride of ownership with the quality it delivers.... in fact, they should have charged $1299 so we could be even more proud and also so it would have been competing in the same tier as the moog sub37.

doubt it, the Ren has had this price cut for well over 6 months now, so if it's indeed going back up, folks need to grab it while they can at the lowered price tag. $699 is alot cheaper then $999 glad to see Akai raise the ticket. Keeps the gear closer to what we originally invested in it.

I doubt this will stay at $999, if it does return. It's pricing itself out of the market (Maschine Studio). I feel that it's overpriced at $699.

I've been thinking this for the last year.

I remember paying around 3k for the 4k when it came out.$699 for the ren is amazing compared to the limitations I had with my 4k, sure it was great technology at the time, but I've always wanted an ITB solution for the Mpc yep even back then, we had a software program to drag files back n forth to the cpu,but it was never this fluid, bottom line for me, the REN delivers. The product is getting better with each new update. I also own the Maschine Studio, and prefer the Mpc 9 times outta 10 to work with it. Different strokes for different folks it seems.

People always refer to $699 as being a good deal for this... but you also have to consider the cost of a computer and possible an audio interface. That could very well run you up to $3k.

This isn't necessarily cheaper than a 4k, it's just a shift in where (and to whom) the money has to go.

Never would debate with anyone that loves this because it's in the box. I think it's a great perspective. I prefer not to be tethered to a computer, but I'm slowly (slowly!!) resigning myself to the fact that I may have to make that conversion in the future.

But when I'm referring to the price being too high, I'm merely speaking of the controller, not the software (realize it's a bundle). The controller - monochrome dot-matrix style display, and smaller than the previous flagship MPCs... it's a step backwards, all in the vein of trying to be "iconic". Just think it's too much money for where technology is these days (see Maschine Studio). Those Advanced keyboard controllers IMO offer a glimpse into what the next revision of the Ren Controller will look like (even notice that the color schemes are the same as the Ren in that Microsoft ITB concept piece).

If next revision is ITB, truly standalone, I'm all over it. If it's still a controller, if it looks worth it, I'll buy in.

Is the studio also going back up in price?

If not, it would make the studio the go-to device for a ren-workflow at a fraction of the price
