hardware losing link wit software ?

is known problem for hardware to lose connection with the software and become unresponsive until the hardware is rebooted ?

I dont recall having this issue prior to the last software/firmware update, but then again I havent spent much time on it...maybe my usb port is about to r.i.p ?
