does anyone know if i can sync cool edit pro with my mpc 2000xl via midi clock or mtc (provided i get a lil' midi time piece)? i did a short search on the net and found that cool edit is not designed to trigger midi devices. but my question is can it be a slave?

First Connect a MIDI OUT CABLE From your MPC to your PC's IN.

Then SETUP your MPC to Transmit MTC and MMC (midi time code, midi machine control). This is in the MIDI setup section inside your MPC.

Make sure the MIDI channel you ask your MPC to transmit the Sync codes, such as MIDI A or MIDI B, corresponds to your Cable going to your PC.

Make sure your MIDI setup inside cool edit is correct, such as the right devices.

Goto Device Properties inside OPTIONS if you havent set up your MIDI INs and OUTs. Select YOUR MIDI INPUT and OUTPUT Device.

Now Slave Cool edit to MTC aka MIDI TIME CODE. By going to OPTIONS inside the Multi track view and scroll down to SMPTE SLAVE ENABLE.

Then "Check On" MIDI TRIGGER ENABLE.

Once you've Selected SMPTE SLAVE ENABLE, a little text message will come out on the lower left hand corner reading "OPENED MIDI INPUT/SYNC" (NOTE BOTTOM OF PIC 3)

Hit PLAY/REC on your MPC.
It should Trigger CEP also to PLAY/REC and run in sync...
If all is set correct you can now Record your individual tracks into Cool Edit by Enableing Record on a track (in CEP, NOTE TOP OF PIC 3) and Hiting PLAY/REC On your MPC while a track (in the MPC) is soloed.

Then Mix and Edit Inside Cool Edit.

I know it says "SMPTE SLAVE ENABLE" and your thinking "But im not transmitting SMPTE"...ahhh CEP will Convert MTC to SMPTE
that is the Trick!

Latecny Issues Will Occur, It is recommended you insert a Blank Bar In the Beginning of each Track in the MPC. Or Adjusting CEP's SMPTE Latency Issued in OPTIONS/SETTINGS/SMPTE tab.

After Recording your First track in CEP, Mute it to prevent it from bleeding in to your next track recording.

This Will NOT Work With The MPC 1000, Due to the Lack of Sync Codes Generated By the MPC 1000's O.S.

MPC2kxl MIDI settings are as follows (generate MTC):
Shift + 9
MIDI SYNC OUT (A)
Frame Rate 25 (for CEP) 30 (for Vegas)
Send MMC ON

CEP MIDI settings are as follows (trigger from MTC):
F6 – Midi trigger enable
F7 – SMTPE Slave enbable
