Faulty MPC (freezes)

Hi,

Since I got my MPC 2000XL a month ago, it would freeze from time to time. I was saving my work often so it wasn't so bad. I also noticed that if I turned off one of my synths (plugged via midi to the XL) the XL would freeze, so I take care of that.

But in the last days I have been using it more heavily and it just keeps freezing, and now also giving me memory errors whenever I go to the LOAD screen en try to navigate through some directories.

What do you think it is? Is there something I can do?

I would try, in the following order

Take out the RAM so only the stock 2Mb is in use
Try using it like that for a while and see if it still freezes.
If that makes it work ok, replace with brand new ram sticks.

if not, download a fresh copy of the OS and reinstall it on a freshly formatted disk.

Hopefully one of those will cure it.

Also maybe look at the drive you are using for storage, what type is it, can you try a new disc/memory card?

Do you have a CF card reader on your MPC? I've had an occasional error when I turn on my 2KXL, that I narrowed down to this.

After re-fromatting the memory card it seems to be stable. I haven't mounted the memory card on my computer, which is what I think it messed up with the filesystem and made it freeze when it tried to read some files or sectors of it. So I just have samples that i've recorded through the Record input.

I will try to move some samples from my computer into the card, but not many, just as few as possible.

So I thought I had it fixed, but it just happened again.

I was indeed having problems whenever I would try to save/read or just move through directories from a memory card that was plugged into a computer before. Never again, this card has never been plugged into any computer.

The other day it just froze out of nowhere. I didn't try to save/load anything from the card. I was making some beats, I was using it really fast pressing mute/unmutes, changing sequences, opening menus, but never reading/writing to the memory card. The shit just froze out of nowhere, don't remember after pressing what.

I also changed the RAM memory sticks a couple of weeks ago hoping this would fix it, but it didn't

I lost it all, and I was liking that beat a lot. I hate this.

yeah that sucks... maybe you had better move on to a more reliable machine. While that doesn't happen to me on my 2000 and hasn't happened to me on an XL before.... maybe you need to move onto a newer machine.

Well I know of many producers who use an MPC 2000XL up until today without any problems, and there are feature from the 2kXL that none of the other have, so I would rather try to fix the problem.
