You won't get a "ren-workflow" with the Studio, hence the price difference. You'll get a Studio workflow, which is compromised in comparison.

The studio is staying at $399 according to the catalog. I was thinking about the difference between the Ren and the studio. Almost anything you can do with the Ren you can do with the studio. When 1.8 drops its going to give the studio basically the same software functions. You will have all the "vintage modes" the Ren has so the gap is pretty much closed.

Exactly. The Ren has all the Q-Links rather than the 'selectable bank of q-links' that the Studio has, but aside from the non-tilting screen - it's pretty much identical for most peoples needs. Plus it's more portable and still looks frankly amazing. And, it seems, will be massively cheaper.

There seems to not have been any price drop here in Sweden
Rather a steady raise which could be due to currency etc
Im about to buy the Ren but i'd like to think maybe a little longer about it. Do you think we can expect an increase in price here in Sweden as well?
Was the drop only in the US market?

Using the Q links on the Studio requires you to use the top wheel to change the quadrants. When you are doing fine chopping it can be a little tedious having to switch rows all the time.

Of course if you use your mouse to chop then it doesn't matter. One thing that I thought of was chopping by pad like the ASR etc... Now that it's coming to the MPC it should make chopping with the Studio Q-Links lightning fast.

If I still don't like the qlink workflow then I will probably order the Renaissance the next day.

Can't wait, and with masada showing BPM sample detect 1.8 is going to be a crazy.

Just picked up a brand new Ren today for $644. Haven't touched an MPC in over 10 years when I had the 2000XL. I don't know what's it's like to not have to load up my song by using thirty 1.4mb floppy disks.

Im pretty excited, my Ren will be here Friday. Trying to get all the VSTs and everything I need to be prepared for when it gets here. I wanna get the tutorial book sold here but im afraid when 1.8 gets released there may be a chance people who bought 1.7 won't have access to the 1.8 version.

That's the same price I got mine for last week from gear nuts on ebay. It was the best offer price they countered with.. Now I have both the studio and the Ren. So far Feb is here and I haven't seen it go up yet so I don't know if it will now.

Don't think that's a problem. When 1.7 dropped, the update on the tutorial book came for free for those who had purchased the book earlier. I highly recommend this book, it helped me a lot getting started.

Correct me if im wrong (which is highly possible considering im new to the MPC community, and *JUST* bought my first MPC yesterday), but wasnt one of the biggest differences (outside of workflow) between the two was the ability to record audio? Nor can you plug in Midi keyboards/whatever into the back of it, etc. etc.? Please dont bite my head off for this, im a newb, but these were the impressions I got after reading around.

It has MIDI, it comes with mini jack-MIDI convertor leads that you plug into the mini jacks are the back. Unlike the Ren it doesn't have a built in audio interface so you'll need a separate one (which many have already).

It's on the whole good for the money, but the Q links are poor, both in terms of design and number. Data wheel is atrocious as well. I use the Studio more than the Ren simply because it uses less desk space.

Thx alot for this, buyers remorse was already kicking in and now its in full effect

You will love your ren. I bought the studio shortly after the ren. It was cool for travel times and all. But it was a pain to jump from the ren then studio on trips. Buttons didn't seem to be in same place. Or it was just kinda cramped. It does look sexy though.

Ren was a great choice. And tutor updated the ren bible book with each update and anybody that bought it in past gets the free update. As far I have seen. Tutor can confirm that with you.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! Not sure if I said this before but i've always been a fan of the MPC. I loved the simplicity behind the sequencing.

Ren arrived today, im in love. Played with a Maschine Studio at Guitar Center and while im sure it does alot, I really disliked the pads. This is by no means a knock on the Maschine Studio, to be quite honest I know so little about both machines I dont know enough to say which is stronger than the other, or why, im simply saying I disliked the pads, but I love the pads on the MPC Ren.
