Using a tube mic with mpc 4000

Can you plug a tube microphones power supply directly into the mpcs mic input for a good signal?

Yes... you could use the 4000's preamp to amplify the signal of your tube mic-- just be careful and make sure the main volume and record volume is all the way down and then slowly turn up to get a level...

I have never done it as I don't do direct sampling all that much with my 4k... would imagine you'd get better results using a dedicated preamp-- bringing the mic's signal to line level and then sampling.

I just want to make sure about what you are talking about here.
Are you talking phantom power being provided to a tube mic from the MPC4000?

No no. Phantom power is NEVER used with Tube microphones. Your power supply is powering the microphone with voltage in excess of 48v...

The power supply is not a gain stage however-- it simply provides voltage to the capsule and tube(s)... you still need to use the preamp on the MPC 4k (and set the input to Mic) or use an external preamp and record into the MPC at line level. Remember that all mic preamps do is raise the approx. -40/-50 db signal of the mic to a useable line level signal as if it were a keyboard or cd player...
