For Bass players - Peavey Fury 6

Hi All,
I just bought a used bass and I absolutely love it. It is my first 6 string. I have a 4 string and I am a moderate player nothing great. I got our studio musician to test it out and he was digging it hard so I decided to make a short video about it. When I was doing research on the bass I did not see any videos. There is a little bit of talk about the BOSS GT10-B as well.

Man, I really want to buy a Bass this year. I just have NO IDEA where to start. I don't want to spend 2 G's out the door and I don't trust pawn shop basses.

Any tip or pointers?

Do yourself the favor and get a a bass because it is easy to learn, fun to play, and will make your recordings sound so much better than plaing the bass on a piano or into your mix with the mpc pads. The plucked string can have so many nuances.

My advice:
1) Do not spend a lot of money. You can get a great bass for less than $300.
2) Get a 5 or a 6 string and don't bother with the 4. You can do everything with a 4 but you will be moving up and down the neck a lot. You can have a much easier time with more strings.
3) Get a bass with active pick ups. (not a must but you will be happier in the end)
4) Make sure you hold the bass and see if you like the weight, the balance, the string spacing, and the neck(your hands have to wrap around it comfortably)
5) make sure it has good tone controls.

^ I'm a moderate bass player too...Why active electronics though ?I play a four string and that's all I play.. I want a five string to get lower notes. In theory though wouldn't moving up and down the fretboard give your fingers and hands a better workout ? I have a peavy foundation and love it !

if you can't rock like pastorious on a 4, then you got no business with a 6

@ Guiness: The reason for my direct to the point list of things to get is simply because in this world of multiple options one can waste time in the decision making process. So while active pickups are not a must, in my view get them because they make your guitar loud and just deal with the 9V battery change.

@ Rogue: if your logic holds true many professional musicians would not be worthy of owning a 6 string bass. While I respect Jaco, I am definitely not trying to play like him. I play like me.

Back to Bass talk:
I have been practicing with the 6 string a lot. A minimum of 1 hour a day. Monday I got 3 hours straight on it. I absolutely love this bass. At first I was thinking I will never go into the C string. Now I am really happy that it is there.

That bridge, that bridge ! I got no problem with the main bassline part but, I'm still trying to get that bridge! I guess I can play it, but not as fast as the og song..

I see what you mean about having to move around a lot more on a 4 string. I saw the difference right away. Sir Duke is a mean bassline to learn !

As somebody who has played bass almost his entire life this is crap, as is Ian post.Learn the 4 string
and see difference in the nature of ascending descending.

^^ Yeah, I've only been playing for a few years. So you're saying don't bother with a 5 or 6 string ?
