delayed hand claps

Just wondering if anyone has any technique to make delayed claps other than leaving space at the beginning of the waveform. I saw something before regarding this but have not found any relevant info. I don't have an example at the moment but the sound i am looking for is basically the clap lands on the beat soft and is delayed once hard so it has a lag effect. this has been eluding me for a while. any help is appreciated.

Some MPCs have an offset option (MPC4000 for example), so you apply the same sample to two layers on a pad and simply apply a negative offset to one layer so its playback is slightly delayed, giving that thicker, dragging clap sound.

Beyond that, make a copy of the sample and insert a bit of empty space at the front and layer it with the original copy, Then mess around with the start point of the copied sample.

Not advisable IMHO, because you may end up with some nasty comb filter effects.

Better to use two or more slightly different samples and layer those...

you could use a delay FX instead of adding space to the waveform itself.
route the clap to a delay/echo FX, dry signal has to be silent and wetsignal at 100%, feedback = so low it will only play 1 clap, delaytime = how you like it ( a few ms)

Another tip is to meet hipsters.

I hollered at this hipster chick onece, who had some hipster homies that danced offbeat. I invited them over to clap along to some of my breaks and recorded it. It was more natural than manually programming a delay or using a delay pedal.

I paid them with a pack of pabst beers and soy jerky.

start with your sample

reverse the whole sample

edit the selection so that a tiny bit of space at the beginning is NOT selected

and then reverse the selection.

this places a bit of the tail of the sample (often silence or near silence in drum samples) at the beginning of the sample, like so:

.0oo..

I like that one. Great technique.

Attack is also a way, combine this with the things the others mentioned.
