Just grabbed a s900 for $100!

Dude was selling his whole studio. I almost bought his mpc60. Then dude says, I have a maxed 2000xl I'll let go for $450 and throw in the s900 for 100. I jumped on it. Then he found out I owned an eps16 and three in 30 disks for it.


Pumped, anyone know how many track spaces a s900 takes up? 4?

Why didn't you get the MPC 60?

I already own the eps. I really just wanted the 60 for the drum. The 2kxl and s900 saves me $500 over buying the 60 too.

s900 s950 , it's one of the easiest hardware samplers to chop drum breaks on.
record your break in.. maybe name it 'somethingsomething 01' or just '1' then copy it how many times you want labeling it 2 3 4 5 etc. then just chop away. remember to go to page 10 and hit 'discard' to discard unwanted sample data to save memory.

that's it really, you can't even copy samples on the mpc60 right? that's what to me kind of sucks about it but obviously the sound of it is dope.

Went and picked them up yesterday. Mpc is in good shape. Gonna throw a black case on it. The s900 is in great condition. I'd give it a b plus. Only problem with it is the volume knob broke off. You can still adjust it though. He threw in tons of sample disks for the s900 and my eps. Gave me 3 compact flash cards for the mpc full of samples too. Dude used the mpc for heavy metal lol.

you may bug out in the sample edit window, the top line is for editing the sample. the bottom line is for re-naming it and / or deleting it (this will make more sense as you use it)
Once you have a sample in it, make sure its on the top line (if your sample is selected it shows on both lines - but it will flash on the top line. ), roll the wheel once and it will jump to the end of the name, add a number in there with the keypad and hit enter. it will copy. (and your new sample will display as the sample being edited)

If you want to delete, make sure bottom row is flashing, press "-" then enter, it will delete.

Stick drums on their own output channel, to layer, you have to use two voices, but its got 8 so its plenty for drums.

I dont completely truncate and discard, i will set start and end, sequences, adjust start and end then discard. seems to work better for me

another tip, breaks and drums sound amazing on the s900/s950 when you dial in rates like 08000 - 09000 and record it slightly hot.
not sure if you get to pick the sample rate on the s900 though.

yeah it gave me good results!

it already gives you 12 bit.. cause it is 12 bit... that reduces the frequency range basically. It generally cuts off the highs first. You will see when you mess with it. Just play around with the thing. It is a simple machine for simple tasks... plus it sounds good. You may find it isn't worth going through the headache.
