how to use the metronome?

i was just wondering how do you get better at keeping a good rhythm with a metronome? how do you use the metronome? i want to know because my beats are really of rhythm when i sample loops. im new to beat making so sorry if this is a dumb question.

It pretty much does what it says on the tin. Will count the beats for you; 1, 2, 3, 4. Stick your snare on the 2 and 4 and a kick on the 1 and 3. Tap a hi hat rhythm out to. 8 hits in the 4 bars and you've got a real simple drum loop.

If you're off rhythm with the metronome just keep practicing. Do a bar (1, 2, 3, 4) with the metronome and without and compare the two.

You could try doubling your tempo and using each click of the metronome as an 1/8th note. So in 1 bar (two on the mpc) you'll get 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. This should make it easier to get yours hats on time.

Also that loud beep that goes BEEP cheep cheep cheep, thats the 1. So know thats where to start. I say this because sometimes I get caught up and use it as a snare and during playback some samples didn't play.

I graduated from the metronome and went to sampling my own sound and loop it to be my metronome and now do not need it for its a **** distraction.
