Instant track mute?

I just bought a MPC 500 (I've used a MPC1000/jjos for years). On my model when I change the mute-status of a track in the track-mute mode, it only becomes effective at the start of the pattern.

So e.g. if I have a pattern of two measures with a few tracks, and have it looping. I unmute the snare drum track during the first measure, I still have to wait more than 1 measure before the pattern loops again and the snare is actually unmuted. Can the MPC500 do instant unmuting like the MPC1000?

An un-muted track will only start to play the next triggered sample. It will not play a sample that was triggered whilst muted.

But with my MPC500 that doesn't happen. Unmuting a track causes it to play only after a few measures (i.e. when the pattern loops), not at the next triggered sample.

Not sure if I'm misreading what you're saying but when your pattern loops, that's the sample triggered again.

Thanks for responding. But I'm probably not clear on my problem.

Suppose I have a pattern (sequence) of 4 bars, with on track 1 a Kick and a Snare sample, and on track 2 a hi-hat pattern of 16th notes. If (in mute-mode) I unmute track 2 I would expect the hi-hat to start playing immediately. Instead it starts playing two measures later when the pattern starts allover (loops). Can this behaviour of the MPC500 changed? That if I unmute track 2 halfway, the hi-hat immediately starts playing.

My 500 behaves the way you want it to. (Instantly) the only time it plays all the way through is if it is a four bar long sample. Maybe its a setting? I am on os 1.1. Maybe the setting in mute groups is jacked? Hope that helps.

Ha thanks. My MPC1000 also behaves like I would expect. I'll go looking for a settings somewhere then. Thanks again!
