sliced samples mpc 4000

I cant get my slice samples to play with the beat that i program in my sequence. When i hit the pads it cuts the beat off rather than play on top of track smoothly. Please help. Advice.

Press the sample button then press TRIM/LP cursor down to Play mode change to one shot .

shot mode can also be chosen in the program mode, zone page
there you can override the settings made in sample mode
