Mixers with phono preamps?

I am in need of a mixer and I'm leaning towards the Mackie 802 VLZ4. Currently, I have my turntable hooked up to a Numark M2, which leads to my MPC.

It is my understanding that the Mackie--or most channel mixers for that matter--do not have a phono preamp to equalize the signal and turn it into a line output. So if I buy a mixer, I would still need my TT to go to the DJ mixer, which would then lead to the channel mixer....am I understanding this correctly?

I tried looking through some of the "Post your setup" threads but couldn't find much information about this.

people generally use a DJ mixer as most of them now have in built phono pre-amps. Might not be the bees knees but they do the trick.

Get a phono preamp from Cambridge Audio, the model is called "Azur". They cost around 150 bucks and deliver sound as good as phono preamps that cost a thousand dollars. Thank me later.

You don't see the phono preamp in most setups because people either use a DJ mixer (not advisable unless it's high quality, phono preamps sound like shit in most DJ mixers), or they use a phono-pre, which is usually a small little box hidden somewhere in a shelf or something.

does anyone kno if you can run an instrument or audio through a mic preamp ?

Thank you for the tip, this is something I will look into adding into my setup, to replace the DJ mixer I'm currently using.

Fortunately, I was able to connect all of my equipment without needing a mixer....I just used the assignable outs on my MPC to connect to the SP505. Thanks for the help everyone
