Logic Pro X sync tab not recognizing mpc 2000 for midi clock

i have an mpc 2000 classic running to a scarlett 2i4 interface into logic x on my macbook pro (2014 with yosemite). I'm trying to use logic as the master and mpc as slave. My computer recognizes the interface in the sound settings. It also lets me play sounds into logic from my mpc without being synced (even though it sounds distorted). But when i go to the midi sync tab to select my output, my interface doest show up. I can't get logic to trigger my mpc. please help.

The Scarlet 2i4 is only an audio interface. You still need a MIDI interface to sync your MPC to Logic.

but I've used the same interface to sync my mpc to ableton, acid pro, pro tools, etc in my old pc (which shit the bed). I have midi in and out cables going from the mpc to the 2i4 and they are set up properly.

@byoung: Its been a while since I used logic (or a mac in general) so I just can guess. This is what I would look for:

1. Sound setup on macOS or in other words: Is the interface installed correctly.
2. Sound setup in logic. Since you havn't seen the interfaces MIDI device and also got a distorted sound, your interface is not correctly setup in logic. Do you see your interface as AUDIO device in the sound settings?? If so then it should also show up in MIDI settings.

this is incorrect. the scarlet 2i4 does have midi.

i haven't tried in logic x yet, but in logic 8 i believe they just removed the option for making logic slave to external midi - it only wants to be the master.

terrible idea in my opinion, as slaving to daw is going to provide a lot of headaches.

my workaround, that works really well actually, is setting the tempos exactly the same and starting/stopping manually. they will stay in sync, you just have to practice your timing.

@peterpiper thats the weird part. it shows up as an audio device no problem. i can use the interface with a mic to record vocals no problem as well as mpc audio (besides distortion maybe its a sample rate problem). but thats why I'm stumped because it only makes sense that if it shows up as an audio device it should show up in midi settings.

@tapedeck shoot i'd be happy if i could even have logic as the master!! i can't even do that because its not showing up in midi clock or mtc settings. i was thinking about using logic as a sound module and not even saving the beat to my mpc... but my sound is too distorted for some reason...

yer doing something else wrong too.
logic will work as a midi master (i would not recommend this), and midi has nothing to do with your sound...so you're gonna need to start smaller and more elementary to find out where each thing is screwing up.
if you are using logic as a sound module, just forget midi sync, match the tempos, and have fun.
people get so caught up in sync and it is really not always necessary.
