4K compressor settings

Hey yo,


Never really bothered with the 4k's compressor limiter as i had an out-board one.
Any tips on how to get it sounding good, it's tricky to stop it sounding weak IMHO

I use it sometimes as a limiter for a program when working on a beat, but remove it before recording into the daw.

dont sleep on the lil compressor it sounds better than most plugins if used with care. i found that if u compress and resample and then repeat a lil compression at a time while layering can get really nice solid sounding drums.

The compressor is no slouch and can accommodate a variety of flavors from transparent to super squeezed and distorted. if it's sounding "weak" then it sounds like an issue relating to threshold and make-up gain...

Its interface is obviously not something very fun or fast and I mainly use it with individual sounds as opposed to compressing entire sequences.

Setting the attack super fast will compress the transients of the samples which is not usually desirable as it will lessen the "splatt" of kicks and snares... Yet you want it fast enough to catch the sounds and give them the treatment you desire... The release time will depend on the complexity and tempo of your arrangement and should be set by ear.

That being said you need to explain the sound you're trying to achieve and what you'll be using the compressor for (shaping sounds or leveling songs/seqs) to get more specific tips...
