My suggestion would be a MPC1000 with JJOS. It's very powerful and offers many features not available on the 3000, all in a compact package. Editing with a waveform, nondestructive chopping, grid editing, onboard effects, filters/LFO, and the ability to connect with your computer are the big ones I can think of, but there's plenty more.
You can find a good condition 1000 on craigslist for less than $400 and it's small enough to take places....no computer needed
Thanks, but my final decision is to keep and still use the 3000. It’s too much of a sentimental piece to not use. Syncing has never been a problem for me, whether it’s tracking out Midi Time Code, or to another external device like Midi Beat Clock. I’m going to intrigue the virtual world of instruments, side by side with my 3000 like I have in the past.
