Hi fellas,

got an mv 8800 in good condition bought second hand less than 2 years ago, just now really getting into it.
I love the machine and everything is working properly, expect for the usb connection i guess...
If i try connect the hd via the usb i cannot access the files on mac osx and windows both.
I mean the internal hd is "seen" by the computer but for some reason it didnt mount properly.
If i try to open the folder the computer freezes and i cant un-mount the hd so i have to physically remove the cable.
Tried formatting the hd within the mv o.s., tried swapping other 2 working hd and ended up using a 32 gb compact flash, which is working flawless except for the usb connection...so i got the same problem here no matter if i try another hard disc...
maybe someone had the same problem?
If so, How did you fix it? (if you fixed it...)

I do own an 8800. But not to hot on PC issues. However, I do know of a program that converts MV files so your Mac or PC can read them. Check it out. There is freeware available but check MVnation.com for more info.

Here is that link

thanks man didnt know the mv translator!!! :smoker:

I still got this **** usb issue, tried virtually everything from hd, ssd, compact flash...

even spend som days researching on the net and found two cases like mine, they solved the issue via roland authorized repair (and they dont know what was the cause).

At this point i may going to sell the shit and try to score a new working mv8800, hopefully within the op1 out exp included.

i would gladly accept your offer if i was livin in us or you lived in europe, sending stuff from cali to italy costs a shitload of shipping fees and i have to pay taxes as well...and the package is going to take a lot of hits during the shipping process...
for now i prefer loocking for an mv in the "european zone".

on windows 7/8 the hd/ssd/compact flash is seen properly after a good while, but if i try to open it the computer just freeze up.
Even i cant un-mount the hd via software (still freeze the shit out of it) so i had to physically remove the cable from the pc.

well I never tried it on windows versions above vista.... it works with vista 32 bit though.

have you tried different USB cables?

the thing is, the hard drive isn't actually mounting like an external hard drive does... it's just an emulation of a file system that you would be seeing... the mv has it's own file system with different limitations (ie:every file must be sorted by date) there is more going on behind the scenes than that... using USB is the safe mode way of accessing the MV drive, taking the drive out and putting it into a PC is the dangerous but much faster way to get stuff on/off the hard drive... just be careful. what you will see on the hard drive will not be the same as what you see on it via USB.
