Forum to discuss all matters relating to the MPC1000 and MPC2500 operating systems created by 'JJ' (all versions).

I have a 2500 with JJ XL. On a couple projects I have tracks with no note data, just set up to receive MIDI notes from an external source and play samples out. I want to manipulate these samples real-time with the q-link (LPF specifically), but I can't get the slider to affect the samples that are MIDI-triggered. It's like it accepts the data for a split second then continually reverts to default, almost as if it were receiving contrary MIDI instructions but the monitor comes up clean.

Obv it works fine with notes in the MPC sequence. Doesn't matter whether the ext source is a sequence or controller. Pressing play or overdub on the MPC doesn't change anything either. Is this just not feasible in JJ?

Yeah CC71 and CC74 control the sample filter to that track. Active track on helps I think to.
Check your sequence and make sure there is not any Qlink data or Program Change messages overwriting your new Qlink slider data. PCs will reactivate your patch in an external synth and reset your parameters.

Its nothing to do with hidden data or that shit bliprock is on about. It just doesn't work. The os is buggy and its pretty clear to me that jj doesn't use his mpc in a role where much midi is send to it. There's tons of things that are just flat out retarded regarding its behaviour to incoming midi (hopping around in the program view, pitchbend incorrect scaling, recording on all channels not just the active one, incorrect q slider behaviour, no way to find a recorded cc track by twiddling the knob, poor control of parameters, and the only real 'control' is simulation of buttons and pads, which is very limited in scope.)

You can't do what you're trying to do.

I tried to report this as a bug a few weeks ago and I got a response that it can not be fixed.

JJOS is cool, but it seems like every time I find something that makes me glad I have it, I can't use it at all for some reason.

At this point I think the only thing I use that it has to offer other than the stock or free os is INST pgm.

Will add it to the JJOSXL limitation topic.
Don't hesitate if you have other limitations to share :)

There's something to dig here I think.

It seems that Q link realtime stuff is for the internal part of the MPC. For external devices MIDI CC stuff, like Bliprock suggested.

So first question :
Without recording anything into the MPC sequencer does that work if you trigger your external device with a midi controller through the MPC while using CC#71 or #74 with the MPC Qlink?

no actually this is not working properly, every note from keyboard resets LPF if it's set as realtime

Second question : what do you mean by this? Does it reset the value of the Q link, impacting a MPC program, when there's an incoming MIDI signal? Probably a separate bug no?

Sorry I don't have the time to set up my gear differently to check everything by myself. But I think it can be good to have confirmation from JJ before putting this in the limitation topic.

It does not only seem, but it is and always was like that.

I don't think it will work (just like that), it won't hit MPC "mixer" this way, I know it operates from extarnal controller no problem, BUT from memory I think it won't work from q-link unless cutoff on your synth is set to respond to those CCs because it only sends out and NOT passing thru.

it resets value of LPF to program setting i.e.: press a keyboard, move a LFP to 100 > works, now just touch another key.. LPF gets reset.. I even reported this one with a video few months ago.

I've just checked it here with OS2XL(3.47) and OS3(1.29).
Works as expected with OS2XL. Works like you describe with OS3.
Could you check twice please? Maybe the bug is not fixed in OS3.

has anyone got around this somehow ? I want to play my mpc with an external midi keyboard and tweak parameters in real time, but they keep resetting just like described above unless i play the notes from the pads (in which case they do latch) but you can hardly play synth leads, strings, bass, etc. using the pads effectively.
