MPC 3000 Is Driving me Insane-New User

Hi Guys,

I own an MPC 2500 and recently got myself a LE 3000 with a Microtech CF Reader.
Apparently this has been modified by the same guy that modified DR Dre's and I also know the person I purchased it from and it is in great condition.

The owner never used it though.

Anyway my dilemma is this, I just cant seem to get my head around getting sounds to even play in this thing, what a nightmare.

I am faced with several options on start up. I have played around with the disk trying to somehow load sounds and it is driving me crazy.

All these options and its hard because the manual refers to floppy disk and not the CF Reader operation.

I would like to start at the very beginning with a hope I can get it operating some way.

So I have just purchased a CF Card reader so I can get new sounds into my Sandisk cards. The sounds will need to be in 16 bit as my 2500 correct, using something like Soundconvertor?

My Microtech takes 2 cards and they are currently 1gig each

Where do I start?

I would really appreciate some assistance from you guys please?

The MPC will treat your card drive as a hard drive, not a floppy.
Samples need to be in .snd format. This MPC can't read wave files.
You can convert waves to .snd very easily. Do a search for wav2snd and download it (it's free) .

Would you than suggest downloading wave2snd then dumping .snd files into my Flash memory card. Where do you suggest I begin when going to the MPC 3000 to locate these files after plugging in the flash card to the MPC?

Looks like this Wav2snd is only on PC??

tbh. I would recommend actually using it as a sampler.
Hook up a sound source and record your own sounds in. You will find it far more satisfying than loading someone else's sounds and you will have something original.

They are my own sounds.
I own a DMX and a 909 I want to import my sounds into it

Well you can sample them. Save all the hassle of trying to convert your files.

Okay thanks but can you please assist me then should I decide to use some samples on how I can easily convert files to .snd on a Mac and find these files on an MPC.

Nothing wrong with using samples, I really would appreciate assistance here as I am struggling.

Sorry I don't know any Mac apps that would do it.
Macs tend not to be so MPC friendly.



I was under the impression you were eager to get a foothold on your mpc.
Sampling would be a great place to start.
The rest will come in time

i use chicken translator on the mac.. it batch converts Wavs to SND and then it's just a case of copying these to the CF card , load into the 3k and you're ready to go

I imagine when the snd files are loaded, does the MPC 3000 immediately recognize these files, or is this a matter of accessing one of the menus and loading the sounds to each pad.

Like I said I own and MPC 2500, I just found the 3000 is not as intuitive as the 3000.
I imagine it will take me some time.

Just as long as I can get sound, this will give me a start, without sound its hopeless.

As stated in the manual, the MPC will autoload the APS file titled STARTUP.APS (and all associated sound files) from the disk partition A. So if you save your desired programs/sounds as an .APS file titled as such, that will autoload. Otherwise, you'll have to load them manually each time.

I would echo the sentiments of others here though, the 3k is best used as a sampler. Yeah, you can get it to work by loading files from the computer, but there are other machines that work better for that.
