Mpc 4000 in 2015

What's up? I had my mpc 4000 about 3 weeks know and i must say
lm ln love with it. I come from the mpc 1000 and i use to swear by
It until i made this purchase. I paid 600 for it and so far no problems.
Great machine i love the work flow, the feel of the pads when i hit em
the sound is warm and authentic. I come from an era of Boom Bat so hardware is what im used to. This is definitely one of the best purchases ive made in a long time. The unit came with 272 ram also
80 gigs of internal memory. I did have to reformat the HDD i bought a
couple of thumb drives and now im in business. Oh and i just loaded up the akia software to my macbook so now i can drag and drop wav files from the computer to the mpc 4000. In 2015 this machine is still
relevant. Im glad i copped it now lma learn it inside out and create some great music. If you are looking to buy one do so you wont regret it. Peace.

I concur. Once you have great sounds in it you are rolling.

Congrates dude!! I think is one of the best drum machine ever produced. I was wowed when i first used it and I'm coming from a 2000XL.

congrats on your purchase! before I got my 4k is working with the 1000 aswell. totally different story I never had regrets making the switch.

i seen a influx of dead 4ks on ebay and gumtree over the last 12 months.
to me that rings alarm bells.

One or 2 maybe. i don't think it's an influx (U.S. ebay). I readily check on ebay. Its good idea, though, to buy and extra machine for parts. I bought a broken one awhile back and was able to fix it. so i have a spare in case one goes down. Push come to shove i can sell it. Its not fun when you have malfunctioning equipment just sitting there staring back at you. Regular maintenance is good too. Once in a awhile give it a good cleaning

I keep it clean. And when Im done with it i cover it up so no dust can accumulate on it.

I was toying with the Idea of getting another MPC, dunno why, I like the 4000/5000 but im not sure what it will benefit from when I already have the studio. its a beast though

Well for me its a no brainer. Im a hardware kind of guy I've been on the emu sp-1200 to my first mpc 1000 and now the mpc 4000. Im in love with this machine. Because of its software capabilities its still relevant in todays music creations. Today i have loaded up about five folders of sounds from my protools 8 audio loops and sounds. There is a huge selection of high quality sounds to help with my production. When i heard the live drum breaks over 8 pads i had an orgasim literally nutted in my pants lol. I knew it would work in theory but i had to put it to test. The work flow is incredible, im able to move around the 4000 with ease. Alot of practice. ...at least 0ne hour a day after work and my days off 8 to 12hrs non stop. I can go on for hours but ill stop here. If your considering getting one buy all means do so. Peace.

Yea. My mac is running 10.6 snow leopard. So Aksys is working fine.
I think if you are running anything other than that you might run into some problems. For instance Lion and above want work do to Aksys has no more updates for theses new OS for mac. I think the last update for Aksys was 2.61.

Now I've been seeing them 2 on ebay (US) right now and about 4 in the last month

NOW is the time to get a spare for parts

Aksys running on my snow leopard mac too.

I wish I wouldn't have bought my 5000 and just bought a 4000 used. The money I would have saved would have paid for some other gear. Someday I will pick up a 4K too.

It doesn't take much to make a 4k play dead. So far, my experience as a new owner is that if you have a service manual and read this forum, you can usually wake the machine up again. If someone doesn't know that, they might freak out and sell instead of popping the hood and reseating everything.
