MPC Renaissance - UK

I'm pretty sure I'm going to take the plunge and get myself a Renaissance....does anyone have any advice on good suppliers in the UK?...or good deals or anything?

I've had the 2000xl for ages, but I'm getting tired of zip disks and problems syncing with a DAW.....I see the limitations of the Renaissance as pretty much limitless.....

Limitless limitations is not the best selling point but i know what you mean.

If you're buying brand new i think all sellers are the same or thereabouts (£659). I personally use GAK.co.uk for most hardware/software purchases. Always found their customer service and product knowledge quite good.

I need a laptop too....probably just get a cheap one from ebuyer - £160 unless anyone tells me that's a really bad idea...

Get the most powerful laptop you can afford. That's my word of advice.

does the software really drain the laptop?

my knowledge of computers is pretty zhit.......any advice on what I need?

They also offer a pay monthly option (10% interest) if you don't have all the funds up front.

With regards to laptop it really depends on how much CPU usage you'll be putting thru the Ren. Do you intend to use plug-ins? How many tracks on average do you use? Much effects?

I personally think 4GB RAM with a quad core processor is enough for most beginner to intermediate music but the more effects and plug-ins you use you may need to expand at some point. I intermittently make hip hop using machine and have had 4GB RAM and quad core on both PC and Mac and never ran into any clipping problems. I am now getting to a point though where I need to expand RAM as I do a lot more effects processing with me beats and notice the CPU usage is higher than ever.

Either way good luck and have fun. You can d/l the software from the Akai website to get a feel for it. Might be you just wanna switch to a newer hardware MPC with better DAW connectivity and compatibility.

good time to jump on board as the software is really coming into it's own. if your coming from the 2000xl your going love the Ren.

650 seems to be the lowest new. unless you go ebay or gumtree theres always someone
that buys stuff and then decides it's not for them.

laptop ? you need to ask these windows guys what kinda spec their running.
you can get some really good laptops cheap and then get a ssd and up the ram.
if there is an issue with you plan this maybe it.
are you going to use a lot of plugins ? that will eat CPU
or is it more samples. not really a problem.
i gave up on windows 10yrs ago went mac/Linux. windows is like McDonalds it's everywhere but i never go in

I'm mostly going to be sample based I guess....I've always been making traditional hip hop music, but I was thinking maybe with the Ren I could experiment with some liquid drum n bass, or maybe some deep house as well....

I kind of realised with the 2000xl its not going to be easy to make that kind of music....

Before I had the 2kxl I used to make music with Fruityloops and Acid, and I enjoyed that process.....the Ren seems to link both of those methods perfectly......

although I really don't want to return to the land of freezing screens and crashes

I cant unfortunately....this is a work laptop and I cant install anything on it....

but anyway, I was planning on making use of the extra features of the Ren.....even if its just extra reverbs or more intricate sequencing to start.....and then with some more experimenting over time....

Wait until Musikmesse, then make a buying decision. If a Ren MK2 drops shortly afterwards you'll be kicking yourself for jumping the gun.

whilst that might be really good advice.....I find it quite disappointing....

I finally made the decision to go out and get myself some new age heavyweight gear and I don't really feel like waiting around for something new to drop...

I am a bit gutted how laptop dependant the Ren seems to be......but looking at its features it just looks perfect for me......like exactly what I've always wanted sort of thing...

I cant really see me running loads of VST's....but I would like to layer lots of samples and run plenty of effects...

Can anyone give me a very approximate estimate of what kind of limits I'd be looking at with the 4GB Ram and Quad Core Processor.....in terms of sample tracks.....number of effects......maybe VST's

I know that's not an easy request, I'm just trying to gauge what my limitations would with that set up.....

Go with the Ren, you won't be disappointed.....I got mine from Andertons when it was first launched, the software was a little buggy at first but glad I've stuck with it....well worth the wait!
I built a PC to use just for the Ren, nothing special, windows 7, dual core, 4 gb....never had no problems.

The Ren is neither 'new age' or 'heavyweight', so you should probably lower your expectations.

Messe is in 2 weeks time... if you can't wait, then do what you've got to do.

Coz, what aspects of the Ren are you not feeling?.....you seem quite down on it.....aside from the whole laptop dependency I think its features look impressive....
