Thinking about selling Maschine for a MPC

I have been producing for five months and I have been using Maschine, but I'm not enjoying it like I expected, so I was gonna sell Maschine I'm hopes of getting a MPC renaissance. Again I haven't really enjoy maschine like that I have made 10+ beats with maschine, but I want to try a MPC because I always wanted one, what y'all think I should do? Peace

try to find a friend or a shop where you can play around with it.
i would not make such big buy/sell decisions just from reading/hearing about it. get your hands on experience. then lets discuss what you found out and what matters to you.

Keep Maschine and use it since you already have it.
Save up for an MPC 1000 + JJOS.
Use it for a while.

Then you could get rid of the one you aren't going to play with.
Or keep both and two cool lil' samplers.

I wouldn't preemptively sell the Maschine to get an MPC considering you've never really played with one before.

I had a bad first experience with an MPC (it was sold to me malfunctioning) and ended up switching to the Maschine. It's a great toy but I could never make full use of it. I don't want to open the OTB vs ITB can of worms but it felt like there was almost too much you could do. This meant that I just ended up playing around most of the time and never really got anywhere.

I'm now back on an MPC 2500 and really enjoying it. Another thing to think about is if you plan to get any other hardware in the future - an MPC will make it much easier to incorporate it into your setup.

At the end of the day, think about your workflow and how you work best and find the machine that suits that. Don't try to fit yourself around a machine.

Sell your maschine and get a Ableton push.

For me, before the question can be answered I'd ask what exactly about Maschine is it that you don't like?

I might try the MPC 5000, someone is selling it for $750 on Craigslist in my area and so I'm hoping the seller is willing to go lower, $750 is alot. Also I heard that the MPC 5000 has good some features. If I can't get the 5000 then I will try out the MPC 2000 for $220 on Craigslist.

i personally would stay away from that 5000, and i would make sure the 2000 has a 100% perfect screen with no lines and not a single missing pixel.

I heard good and bad things about the 5000, so I don't know. If I can I will most likely get the 2000 since its only $220 and has good features. But I would need a Card reader and everything else, so I can import samples

importing samples is not the approach i recommend... the mpc2000 is a sampler... it samples. you run any audio line into the machine and record the sample... what is the point in using a sampler when you aren't using it as a sampler?

Ohh I see I just don't want to always sample from vinyl. Sometimes I would want to get samples from the computer, that's why I asked about importing samples into the 2000.

sampling isn't only a vinyl thing... anything that outputs audio can and in my opinion should be sampled....

I sample from the computer all the time.


you could find a sound, record it or find it on the computer... edit the sound to how you need it... then make sure it's converted to the right format.. then plug in your USB floppy drive or card reader... making sure the card or disk is formatted in the mpc first.. then transfer the sounds.. take out the card or disk and put it in the mpc to load up and assign to the pads. OR you could just have a jack going into the record input on the mpc.. play the sound (you will be auditioning that sound on the computer anyways) and you just hit record and boom.. it's in the mpc, no hassle, no converting.. nothing. PLUS you get the sound of the mpc's AD converters. also, if you want to sample in mono which is suggested for drums at the very least... you don't need to mess around.. you just pick that while sampling.

Alright thanks man and that makes awhole of sense now. Also I talked to the seller and he said that everything works fine, but the screen has lines in it, so I don't know if I should go through with it or not or I can just replace the screen and look on EBay or something.

100% no don't buy it... the lines can not be fixed and it will get worse very soon. he is only selling it because of those lines and there is no replacements for that model even if people tell you there is... you need to hack a screen and modify a cable from another akai piece of gear and who knows how long that used screen will last.

Dang that sucks man I was really hoping that I would be able to get it but it's not the end of the world. I still have Maschine to make beats so its whatever, I just wanted to try out the MPC 2000. Its all good though lol
