Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I recently just bought a mpc 2000xl used and after just fooling around with it thought I'd get some more sounds. After I decided to get some sounds from a vendor on a cf card and have had no luck loading them on my mpc. I have looked into it and I first came to the realization that my mpc is running OS 1.14 and this is where I get lost. I downlaoded the file to update my OS from the AKAI website and then I loaded the file onto a flash using a fc card reader but the problem is that my mpc doesn't give me the ATAPI option unless, I have the original fc card that it came with. I don't know what it can be. I was reading that my card has to be fixed but after checking it it's removable both of them. So what I was thinking is that the card that it came with was specially formatted for the mpc 2000xl otherwise why doesn't it give me the ATAPI option to load the other card. The cards are identical both are Transcend the one with the new sounds I ordered is 2GB and the other one is 1GB. Now I suppose that I need to update my software to be able to load the new sounds onto my mpc but how? I've been playing with the 2GB card reformatting it and everytime I put into my mpc like I said it doesn't give me the option to choose ATAPI to load sounds even when I try to update my OS. If anybody has some advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

OK man thanks for the advice I think I've already tried putting in the cf before turning on the machine but just to be sure let me go ahead and try that again. And if anything I guess I'll just samples sounds into the audio inputs in the back. Would the sound quality of the sounds not be as good as loading them directly from a cf card, do you happen to know?

Everything you record in is going to be sampled at 16bit 44.1kHz/second. That's going to be the same format as the files on the card. The only way it could sound worse is if you have hum or bad cables. I've sampled drums off a zoom H4N and I didn't notice a difference. It's a sampler, don't be afraid to sample in to it, that's the whole point of owning one. If you just want to bang pads get a trigger finger or MIDI up the MPC to redrum.

Hi mate.
I'm fairly new to mpcs too. Late comment. I may of misunderstood your problem, but I was told to load the newish 1.2 operating system on floppy before installing the mcd drive. I don't understand why your friend didn't do this before he replaced the floppy with the card reader. I was told that if you don't do this it may complicate file transfers to and from the cf or sd cards on the PC. If your mpc has an SCSI port on the back you could up grade OS using that from a hard drive or Iomega zip reader. Hope I've made some sense. I understand you wana get down to making beats. :)

Peace
