ok I just purchased a blue 2000xl for $299.99 and read the cf card thread. I wanna purchase a startech reader for it. Not sure if i can grab two, one on slave one on master so I can have 1gb inside of the machine. I also recently bought a friends laptop dual core 2.0 ghz and 4gb ram. I have audacity,2kxl ap, waveshop and wavosaur. so a good source to start. Im gonna order from MPC stuff when it gets here and i find out what it needs. I also need to pick up a cf card reader for the laptop and maybe a video tutorial. A good one??

I am really noobish I wanted one of these when I was 21 and have waited this long. I have little experiance with computers and some mc-909 experiance and electribe samplee and synth. I really want some pointers here gents I know I have to practice alot but I wanna have fun. Would really like to make filtered funky sampled house and or deep house. I use to be a good vinyl dj with beat matchng vinyl and scratching a little. I played huge crowds around 03 and then went a different direction. However I now have nothing but a 2000xl comming and a laptop nothing else at this time?

Any pointers and or advice would be apreciated, thanks.

Very nice looking machine.

Definitely get the tutorial, it's the best $30 you'll spend on your MPC. Comes with sample sound files for each "lesson" so you learn by doing, not just by reading. Highly recommended

ya no slider ill probably replace it with one from mpc stuff. Also only has 2mb of memory, os1.14, and an omega 100mb zip drive. I am struggling to figure out if I should go the route of buying 3x100 zip disks for $15 and a $30 usb drive for pc or if I should purchase a startech memory card at $30 and slave an internal one if possible. Not sure what if zip drive is bad and I get clicks? I don't have any zips atm so?

Also found out that this was made January, 2004 and was nbr 621 doesn't look like it was molested that much, one button tilted. a few shorter than what they should be.

Ill buy the tutorial once I have the ability to use a storage device so I can load the samples that come with it.

Also forgot to mention that i have a multitrack recording dagree. graduated in 03. havent really used it since, been tattooing for fifteen years and now that im older and have more time i wanna spend my nights making fun stuff art and music.

Upgrading it to 32 meg ram will cost you $10

I would not bother spending money on a zip drive. If you're set on doing so, then at the very least buy yourself a Jaz drive for the same price. But even that could be a waste of time if you're going the card reader route.

The slider isn't really important but for the sake of having a complete XL, I can understand why you'd want to replace it.

As for multitrack recorders, I prefer recording into my sound card that has 8 in's instead of a stand alone multitrack.

Where can one get ram for $10 enlighten me that's cheap

I have to buy a usb zip drive to update to a cf card reader my OS is 1.14 and I need zip disks to test the unit I bought. The next step is to get a startech card reader and another one to put into slave if possible on the inside of the machine.

The slider is Import to me and its only $15. I have a multi track recording degree not looking for any sort of recorder.

Ordered a startech cf card reader last night and the upgrade memory and then made a two bar loop, fun stuff easier than what I though it would be. The Zip drive I bought wouldn't read the disks, windows 7 issue so buying usb keyboard for my fifteen year old windows xp desktop so I can transfer files. Hope windows 7 recognizes the cf card.

To answer your original question. 2 16 meg simms cost $10 bucks, or at least where I go it does. Even at $20 that is still a decent price.

Windows 7 will recognize it. Formatting the card on the MPC will mean the card follows the FAT format, which can be read on all versions of windows just fine.

Did you format the zip from the MPC, then connect it to the computer? I have Win 7 with an internal zip, it should be able to read it.

Negative I think the drive I bought is broke. I'm gonna take it back here in a minute and see if the guy can load OS 1.2, that is if they have a working Zip drive. Pain in my a$$ can't wait to get this cf card reader in. Should be being delivered by ups at any moment.

If you can't get that zip drive working, then you're going to be in trouble when trying to upgrade the OS and use the card reader man.
