Hello! I'm pretty new in this mpc game... I come from the roland sp side looking for a better sequencer and i've found it! 8)
I'm about to buy one of these 1k from a friend of mine and he tells me that from time to time it gets a little hot, i assume akai designed this machines well and that the power supply is built-in for a reason...
I don't mind buying one with a few solvable issues like sub-sensitive pads or something like that, but i'm not finding any info about the power supply, i'm not seeing replacement power supplies for the 1k or anything like that and when i google "mpc 1000 hot" or "mpc 1000 replacement power supply" nothing comes up... please can someone give a little feedfack on this subject? i gotta do this deal fast if i wanna catch the good deal im being offered but if the power supply ain't replaceable i gotta think twice about the deal because in my country there's not any akai specialist... theres just a few dudes like me trying to produce and everything is bought from outside the country....

Thanx in advance, hope someone can help me!

Well first of all the MPC 1000 uses a bog standard IEC kettle lead, if that's what you mean by power supply

If you're talking about the actual PSU inside, I have never heard any problems with it getting uncomfortably hot, which is probably why you haven't found anything on google

I would give the unit a test, leave it on for some time and if it really does get (uncomfortably) hot then there's something wrong.

Another thing might be the HDD - if there's one installed it will obviously generate additional heat

thanx a lot for your replies!
i went to the dude's home with 4 joints in my pocket so we got to test the machine for a loooong time.... :smoker:
i think i got a pretty good deal... i traded in my sp 404sx for the 1k and he gave me 70 bucks on top of it...
i've already opened up the machine and is flawless
i coundn't be happier
thank you so much!
