How do you sample?

Hello out there. I was wondering exactly, in terms of hardware and connections, how do you guys sample?

My MPC3000 sounds like TRASH(MAD hum and buzz) when I try to sample with the turntable plugged directly into the 3000 and the gain switch is on high. I swear I've got my turntable grounded to the 3000 at that(tightened to one of the screws). When I plug and ground my turntable into my Vestax mixer, and then plug that into my 3000, it no longer makes that noise. What's really going on here?

I really want to just go direct from table to sampler, so that way my mixer isn't "coloring" the music with its own sound and eq's. So I can just get that raw, direct sound.

Does anyone else experience this issue? Is there something wrong with my 3000? Can or do any of you sample straight from the table into the 3000 without all that noise???

the mpc 3000 does not have a phono pre-amp built in... your vestax mixer has a phono input (which has a phono preamp)... you need that in the chain unless your turntable has a phono preamp built in (some newer turntables have that)

I used to go directly into my 1000 and ground to one of the screws. It worked fine. Does the 1000 have a pre-amp?

If it is only grounded to the mixer, then I wouldn't worry about the mixers effects or eq. It shouldnt have any effect.

Doc00Cosel, your turntable probably has a line level output, that's why you don't need a phono-pre when connecting it directly to the MPC1000.

I don't think you have to worry about the djmixer coloring your sound because here the question isn't about color its actually about getting any decent sound to work with at all, so use the mixer.

TT > mixer > 3000 (with low on the gain I'd say) is the way to go.

Its a Techniq 1200. I figured that was the case. Or something like that.

Technics 1200 doesn't have line level output. It needs a phono preamp.

I would try and get hold of a phono preamp, it will probably increase sound quality DRASTICALLY in your case...

Well he has a vestax dj-mixer so I dont think a extra phono preamp would be money well spent ?

In that case, no. But he wrote in an earlier post that he connected the turntable directly to the MPC1000. MPC1000 doesn't have a phono-pre, Technics SL1200 doesn't output a line level signal... so in that setup, there was definitely a phono preamp missing.

Idk. It was pretty loud hooked into the 1k. It sounded the same as it does now hooked up to the Ren. That was going straight from the turntable to MPC.

Idk. It was pretty loud hooked into the 1k. It sounded the same as it does now hooked up to the Ren. That was going straight from the turntable to MPC.

With a tech 1200..u need a phone preamp..u have a Vestax so your good.

I had a 1000 and could plug straight into it but it sounded shit..

As far as the mixer coloring your sound..they do. My Vestax 07 and 05 had a flat weak sound that i only noticed after I switched to a rane ttm57 . The preamp in rane mixers are studio grade and sound 100000 times better...but at the end of the day your sampling into a 3000 so your quality will be as good as the 3000 anyway.

Years ago I would go into the mixer, then to the MPC. I didn't like the way it altered the sound so I went directly in. I've been doing it ever since and I have no problems. No pre amp.

If I were to hook up a pre-amp, I can't imagine how loud it would be. In my current set up, I have the rec in knob set to about 9 -10 o'clock. Any higher and it starts to peak and distort.

PS. This is set up with the MPC Ren

Any explainations for this?
