Hi people . . . .
Just a quick note -- so someone can learn from my mistake:
The Kingston RAM stick with the specs shown below, which sometimes sells on Amazon, will only come up on a 4k as 128 mb of memory-- even though it's a 256 mb stick. I've bought the same type from two different vendors, at different times, so I don't think the RAM I bought was bad.
I'm guessing that half the memory doesn't read because there are only 8 "chips" of memory on this RAM (8 ICs on one side of card, other side is empty). iirc, the 4k needs to see 16 ICs, 8 on each side.
Wanted to mention this because I think this model has been recommended on the board for the 4k. Hope it helps.
