Ensoniq ASR-X CF mod question

Hello everyone!
i recently purchased an Ensoniq ASR-X ( with SCSI ) and i decided to "upgrade" it.
So, i bought the CF RaizinMosnter, and the guy said that i also need a scsi cable.
"DIN-24R/24 50 pin scsi cable IDC (ACL-1024G) "
There is only one seller on ebay that has them and they are too damn expensive.

Maybe it would be cheaper if you put the CF RaizinMonster in an external enclosure? I know the point is to have it installed internally but with the price of cables like that + shipping to Greece, it gets expensive very quick.

I found this https://www.bcpsystems.com/ecomm/Script ... duct=13045 .. It's about the same price as the cable though and you'd still require another hd50 to hd50 cable to utilize the adapter, so it would get messy quick in my opinion.

thats not a common cable, hence the price.
the scsi ii connector is for external kit, the idc 50 pin connector is normally found inside equipment.
if i needed one of them i'd build it myself.
you can get all those kind of connectors at a good electronics shop. a decent shop will still have that stuff left over from the 90s

the idc connector can be squeezed onto the cable with a vise. the scsi ii connector probably has to be soldered, but if you are lucky your electronics shop will have that with an idc connector aswell.

Ahhh i should have bought the SD HxC Floppy Emulator from the first place.
I decided to buy the CF RaizinMosnter ( it's on its way ), and the cable.
The next day, the ebay user cancel my order and refund the money due to "mistake in our stock"...

@motosega, i wish i could fix that cable my self. There are no such shop nowdays in Greece.

the HxC is awesome for some rigs but I dont think it is right for asrs. it is a floppy emulator so you end up with a ton of individual floppy sized images which sucks on the asr. with a maxed out asrx youll need like 15 floppies or images per full memory load, so its kind of crazy. you want to save over scsi, it will treat the cf like a hdd.

I've just a Gotek flo. emu. in my machine and have found that it works well.

Sample in mono. Then truncate length + reduce sample bits (this sounds good too).

You can get quite a lot of sample material on a couple or so floppy partitions this way.

you could always get different two cables with the right connectors and make a frankencable, all you need is a soldering iron and a bit of patience.


whilst floppy emulators fantastic, they aren't anyway near as fast as scsi, if you have scsi on your sampler you should try to use it.

have a look at scsi2sd (they also have an adapter that look similar to the cable you posted) cheaper than the fuzinmonster, unfortunatly they are out of stock atm, but they are shifing production to china so prices will drop.

when they back in stock i'm ordering one asap.

i'm plugging them at every oportunity because the design is opensource. if you want you can download the pcb files, send them to a factory and make you own. they won't disapear when the guy who makes them has kids, gets hired by a company that won't let him do this on the side, gets run over by a buss, etc. anybody who is technicaly capable can download the source and modify the firmware too. i predict that when they start producing in china they'll be all over the place like lotharek's floppy emulator.

Update: the cable is on its way. The guy whom i bought the CF Rainizmonster managed to make the cable. Pretty expensive though, but next time i will do my homework before i order something.
i could ask here on the forum from the first place. Oh well...
