Track Mute and Next Sequence at the same time?

Hi I often want to be able to control track mutes and next sequences at the same time, and this has been a problem since I used a 2000xl, and now I'm using a MPC Studio. Could I possibly hook in a midi pad controller like Akai's MPD series to the Studio and be able to control both of these things at once????
