What are the advantages? besides being able to play on an actual keyboard as opposed to playing notes on the mpc pads(which isnt a deal breaker in my situation), are there any others?

You have the notes in order on a keyboard, as in... lowest on the left, highest on the right, one after another. On the MPC this isn't the case.

Biggest difference is playing chords. Let's say you are going to play a low chord with your left hand and a higher one with your right hand on the right side of the keyboard, at the SAME TIME. How are you going to do this on an mpc?

Besides, completely different feeling to play a keyboard compared to playing MPC pads?

In short: It's a HUGE difference. I thought that would be pretty obvious...

Also, you most likely have a pitch bend and mod wheel on a master keyboard. Sure, you can emulate that with sliders on the mpc, but with a master keyboard it's just there and works for every key.

Your question is like asking: "What is the advantage of playing a real guitar compared to triggering guitar sounds with MPC pads?".

If you hook up a MIDI keyboard to an MPC running a dedicated keygroup program (MPC Ren/Studio, MPC5000, MPC4000, MPC1000/2500 running JJOSXL) or using a chromatically configured DRUM program (any MPC), then the notes all play in correct order on your keyboard, so you have those options if you need them. You can play chords just fine with an attached keyboard, but you have to configure the programs correctly first.

And if you run the Ren/Studio you have pre-configured chords, scales and progressions available for any keygroup program.

thanks tutor, i have a 2500 with JJOS128 on it,i read up on the chord mode and was wondering if i could get by since i cant play keys

a little backstory-i have a physical disability which causes my hands to not function correctly thus making it pretty hard to play chords with both hands,so i find other ways to do so (JJOS etc)
