Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hmmm not sure about this... it seems to be the IB208P that's causing the issue since you say it works fine when you unplug it. Did you ever try the IB208P with a floppy drive?

Well I can of course try to put the 8 outputs back into the s2000. I ordered another cable and will try that - i read about a guy (somewhere in here) saying that his problem was fixed by trying another cable. But it seems to be an uncommon problem since no one has had the same problem as me.

Anyway. I'll let you know whats up when I've tried the new cable and tried it in the s2000.

does anyone else think the 8 outs are shit sound quality to the stereo or headphone outs?

@tradesman, I am pretty certain they are the same quality components. I think the ultimate test would be to record your beat through all three outputs (headphone outs, 8-outs and stereo outs) and compare. Do you find your 8-outs are of lesser quality? What do you find inferior exactly?

I've seen it mentioned several times over the years from various producers that they some how believe the main outs on the 2000's sound better than the 8 outs but yet I have not seen a gear slutz "test" that could attest to it.

The thing that concerns me about recording multiple stems from the main out vs just doing it in one pass with the 8 outs is the timing may be off, due to midi jitter, etc.

Yes I concur richie... I read an interview a while back with Timberland stating that he only records in stereo outs, he finds the sound is better... Something about the different frequencies mixing together (as opposed to separately)...

So I tried with a completely new ribbon cable - didn't work. The 8 outputs work fine in the s2000.

I really don't know what can be wrong.

What I noticed is that the MPC once in a while switches from "wait...." to "detecting memory", which might suggest that something's wrong with my ram. But then why does it work, when the 8 outs aren't connected? I mean, there isn't any connection between the 8 outs and the rams, are there?

So the only thing I can see now is that I have to either 1. Go to a technician, 2. buy a completely new certified IB208P 8 output for 2Kxl from the mpc store.

Had the same problem.
It worked after I checked the connection again. The cable has to be placed very flat. You have to see the metal contacts pushed through the flatcable. But be carefull with the board and the metal contacts!

hello guys please help me

i cant understand which way am i supposed to connect the 8 out...

i took the s3000xl 8 out and cut the metal plate etc..
i had it soldered a new 34 pin, since the old flat cable was too short.

the problem is that with the flat cable i have, i cannot 'connect it backwards', because otherwise it wont go in, but still, it roasted the resistor!!!,
i changed it and now the mpc is working well, BUT I WANT THIS F*** 8 OUTS!!!!
i cant understand what to do. please help me i can send every picture.

this is how i connected it
imagine you have an open 2000 classic in front.

u mount the 8 out, now need to connect:
from the 8 out, the red pointed pin of the flat cable is to the right, with the interlocked joint upwards. horizontally. i insert it:

now i need to connect it to the 2000 motherboard: the connector is vertical, and its interlock joint is facing the floppy hard disk; the red pointed pin is 'up' in vertical, which means it basically goes red-red in the same position.

so i assume its wrong. what can i do???? i cant connect it 'backward' because as i said theres the interlockin joint that impossibilitates it

Send photo of your setup

hey man thanks for replying. sorry for the late replynof mine but i am not good at using forums.

btw no, i still cant figure it out. its just a **** cable omg...

i have 2k classic and 8 out from the s3000XL.
modified the 8 out to fit into the 2k classic and soldered the new 34 pins attachment ON THE 8 OUT. coz the original flat cable is too short and soldered, u cant just swap them.

then took a flat cable followed pin 1 from the motherboard and everything seemed right, coz, matter of fact, the ridge goes only 1 way. blew the resistor, tried to change the flat cable pins manually by removing the plastic and re do the connections to connect it backwards, since the ridge is meant to go only one way, so i couldnt connect it 'backwards'. still didnt work, blew another resistor. now i am waiting for another flat cable that i ordered, and also i will try to re do the connections. i cant really understand.........

i dont know how to post pics. write me an email man: commonhb3492@gmaildotcom

It doesn't sound like a ribbon cable issue but still strange.

If it's still blowing the resistor, then it sounds that the orientation of the ribbon you keep reconnecting is still backwards.

it is def. 8 out related, coz im messin w it and my unit is really well kept; plus i literally saw the two times irl, like, smoked went up to my nose directly from the resistor. and its only 1.
the problem is that i need a photo showing me the right connection from a guy that has the 8 out from the s3000xl mounted into the 2k classic.

i think i might connect them following, from the motherboard of the classic, not pin 1 that goes to 1 but pin 1 to 34. i need to try other possible connections, but thats just a waste of time, i need some photos coming from that scenario: s3000xl out and 2k classic
